5.0 out of 5 stars Money well spent! May 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
HOLY CRAP! who knew it was possible to cram so many great things betwixt two covers. Come on 34 stories, interviews, articles, amazing art and even some poetry from top names and some great newcomers. $16.99 for all that you know you just can't go wrong. (and only $4.99 for the kindle)

There are to many high-points in this collection from Lansdale, Gorman, Masterton, Piccirilli, Strand and McKinney from the top name category and Shaun Meeks, Christian Larsen, Guignard, Nadeau and Stewart Horn from the newcomers. (Sorry if any of you have been around the block, this is the first time I've read anything by these names.)

I actually enjoyed everything in this anthology which doesn't happen often, so if any authors don't see their names above it's more the fact I'm too darn lazy to type it all out.

Easily one of the best anthologies so far this year and I hope there is another like this coming soon. Keep your eyes also on those newcomers these people are going to give us plenty of frights in the years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Doesn't Like a Fright? April 27, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, well, well, I was a little put off by the first story, just as I was beginning to like the characters, something really not good happens to them. A twist I hadn't expected. Okay, I wasn't put off, not really, more like I was surprised.

And that's not the only story in this book that doesn't wind up like you think it will, or should. Some of these stories are frightening (if you're willing to suspend your disbelief for a short story) and more than some are downright gruesome. And some, like "Bleeder" will make your skin crawl as you imagine a razor cutting you and "Tide Clock" will will make your chest tighten as you feel yourself drowning.

The poems are good too, especially, "A Child Thinking to Himself at Bedtime." Remember when you were a child? Did you ever wonder what was under the bed?

And then there are the two closing stories written by Jeani, both gems. All in all, I gotta say this book is four hundred and sixty-three pages of fun and frights. These stories, some easily remembered, would make great campfire stories.

Can you tell, I'm really enjoying this book. And one of the good things about it, is you don't have to read it straight through. Put the book on your nightstand, read a story at random before you drift off. Brrr, imagine the dreams. The cold sweats. The nightmares. Who doesn't like a good fright in the middle of the night?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant horror anthology June 8, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is an outstanding anthology. I don't just say that because I'm in it :0) There are so many brilliant stories here + poetry and articles.
Where to begin? Well, with Jeani Rector, the editor. She has achieved here what most editors only dream about: a collection of work that has no weak spots, looks professional and is gathering excellent reviews all over the place!
My favourites: 'Impressive Instants' by David A Hernandez - chilling demonstration of how not to solve a weight problem, 'The Dead Wall' by Michael Wolf - a familiar idea, twisted into something very dark indeed, 'The Night Visitor' by Joe McKinney - so atmospheric and deeply disturbing, 'Filmland' by Stewart Horn - a story that is full of pitch black humour; and 'Corn' by K.A. Opperman - such sweet food, but oh so deadly.
There are 34 stories here, and every one is worth the admission price. The mix of well known and lesser known writers is impressive.
The poetry: My favourites were 'Calling the Past' by Ian Hunter and 'The Stranger' by G.O. Clark.
If you enjoy well written, straightforward memorable horror that has originality at its core, you should read this.

Brilliant!
