Book Description

The only way to save her is to bind their souls as one.

Araneae Nation, Book 2

Born with the ability to communicate with the dead, few things take Mana by surprise. But when a canis lopes into her life, announcing himself as the long-dead father of a childhood friend, she's shocked. To make matters worse, he has a dire message that she alone can deliver.

Now Mana must face Vaughn, the male who inspired one too many girlish fantasies, and impart the spirit's message--without acknowledging her source--so the soul can be laid to rest.

With rumors of a burgeoning clan war setting his nerves on edge, the last thing Vaughn needs is for an innocent to get caught in the crosshairs. But the woman he remembers as an awkward girl refuses to leave his side until he's heard her out. That's not the only change in her that calls to him. Her kindness soothes his battle-scarred soul--and he craves her in ways a warrior shouldn't.

When they are both captured, they learn of an even greater threat. The plague devastating the southlands has come to his clan home. And his best--and only--chance to keep his people alive is the female who walks among the dead.

Warning: This book contains one fierce hero with a nose for danger, one stubborn heroine who smells like trouble, and one wolfish spirit who makes most relationships with the in-laws seem downright tame. Fur, fangs and some biting should be expected. But never fear, the hero has a sword, and he knows how to use it.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"It isn't often a story will sweep you away. This one will." - Critique de Book

"[Vaughn] has to be tough and violent at times, but I love that his one soft spot, his
Achilles heel, is Mana. Gah! I loved them in this book so much!" - My Tower of Books

"The entire situation with Vaughn's father was brilliant. I absolutely adored that entire plot-line, and that was probably my favorite thing about this story outside of the actual romance." - Romanceaholic

"The dialogue is sharp, and the world-building is as rich as ever. Edwards expands the reader's understanding in a fully immersive, non-formulaic experience -- all without overwhelming them in a crush of excessive details." - Angela Blount

"I continue to be impressed with this great fantasy romance series. I really enjoyed book one and this second installment is just as strong. The world building is fresh and woven skillfully throughout the story. The characters are well-drawn and easy to root for. And the romance really hits the spot, with just the right blend of emotional pull and sexual tension." - Red Hot Books

5.0 out of 5 stars RunawayPen Review December 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Advanced Readers Copy Review originally posted on RunawayPen.com on October 28th

Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy/Romance

Rating: 5/5 Stars

Mana and Vaughn were two of my favorite characters in A Hint of Frost so I was really excited that they have their own story in A Feast of Souls!

A Feast of Souls continues the plot that was begun in A Hint of Frost, the plague is still spreading and there is still debate over what to do with Pascal. Rhys and Lourdes also make an appearance, however brief it is. Pascal also plays a significant role in the beginning and I suspect we'll see more of her as the series continues.

Vaughn and Mana make a great couple. Vaughn, as we saw in the first book is arrogant, a bit of a loner and well, sometimes a jerk. But in this book much of his past is uncovered, and while it isn't pretty, you have to feel a lot of sympathy and understanding for what he has gone through. He proves himself quite the hero in the end. The reader also learns a lot about Mana's abilities as a spirit walker. Which affects her relationship with Vaughn is several ways, both negative and positive. There is the added fact that Mana and Vaughn have known each other since they were children, it made their love story even sweeter because it was a long time coming. :)

A Feast of Souls has all of the incredible fantasy elements that were introduced in A Hint of Frost. This book delves more into the Mimetidae Clan, who were introduced before but this time we see more of the inner workings of this clan that all the others seem to fear so much.

I cannot wait to see what happens in A Cast of Shadows, Areneae Naton #2.5!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Feast of Souls December 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Mana is a spirit walker and favorite cousin of Rhys the Cold. Vaughn (brother to Rhys) is escorting her back to her home along with the traitor Pascale. Mid way through the trip they are captured by another clan. During captivity Mana is being followed by a spirit, one with a difficult and urgent mission for her.

I loved this story. Mana and Vaughn aren't the likeliest pair - but there is a desire between them that is potent. I especially enjoyed Vaughn. A bad boy, rough - but flirtatious and tender when it comes to Mana. He is delicious to read about. A Feast of Souls is an excellent story. It's the second installment in the Araneae Nation and so far it's my favorite book in the series. Ms. Edwards has created a unique world filled with danger and romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Book In The Araneae Nations Series - 5 Stars March 31, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The series starts in Hint of Frost with the romance of Rhys and Lourdes which is brought about by the need for Lourdes to save her clan which has been betrayed and her only salvation is Isolde, leader of a rival clan known for its fierce warriors and barbaric customs who demands that Lourdes wed her son Rhys as the price for her protection of Lourdes clan .... A price she will gladly pay for the survival of her clan.

There are unexpected benefits to being linked to Rhys that she discovers along the way to rescuing her sister who was kidnapped at the time of the betrayal of her clan.

When the story picks up in Feast of Souls we have a new couple of star crossed lovers Mana and Vaughn (another of Isolde's sons) to enjoy while the mystery of the plague looks less and less natural but some bodies come up missing in most locations. This book had the best ending IMHO but overall I still liked the first book a small bit more but next is the novella.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Series January 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So I loved the first book; it is always exciting to read something original from an author who can really write well and keep me engrossed in the experience. I liked this book well enough, she does a good job describing the setting and world around the characters and how it effects them. That being said, something about this book just did not pull me in or excite me like the first. I liked the main character Mana okay....just okay. I believe the problem was that I just didn't believe in her, didn't really like her or hate her. I was pulled in to the characters lives in the first book, in this one I was like a bystander just watching the action, maybe feeling emotional at times by what I was looking at, but never really invested in the outcome. Everything was just too unexciting, even the parts where I was pulled in just resolved too quickly and easily. Also, I know it is a sequel, and maybe I should have reread the first book before reading this one, but I felt the story assumed I knew a lot more about the two main characters and their experiences together, as well as their history with some of the supporting characters, than I did; emotional backlash from one character to another that I had no real buildup or history to understand left me uncaring about the interaction, and therefor the impact on the characters involved.
Overall a decent read for me, but not anything I had a hard time putting down for long periods at a time. My hope is the author will put out another brilliant book about the fascinating world she has created, and this time it will be as fantastic as the first.

I loved this book! Vaughn is so complicated, but that makes him interesting and mysterious...
The tension between him and Mana is tangible and scrumtious!
This book is a great read and the plot kept me glued to it late into the night - there's loads of development on
The Plague from book one....
