The best soup books I've seen,
This review is from: Feast of Soups (Paperback)
I have quite a few soup books, but this is the only one that receives regular use, and which I know I can count on for a delicious recipe each and every time. The book is simple, not containing many pictures or illustrations, but has hundreds of recipes in it from around the world. This is one of the only soup books I've seen which had multiple (no less than 5) different recipes and styles for tomato soup, it's selection is huge. It is obvious from the dialogue that the author is a soup lover and uses these recipes daily in her home, just like it should be. She details what makes soups not just good, but fantastic, like how to pick your ingredients for maximum flavor. There is a short section before each category of soups where she gives an overview of that soup, some insider tips on preparation, as well as suggestions on building a meal around them. Truly a great cook book, and a must for any soup lover.

Thank Goodness I Found It! - Thanks Amazon!,
This review is from: Feast of Soups (Paperback)
I have her original (hardback) book under the same title which I have used for 15 years. I even managed to track down the author and spoke with her a few years ago telling her how my "Soup" book was one of my most valued and used cookbooks. A friend wanted a soup book for Christmas, and I was panic stricken to find that this book was no longer in print. I was so relieved when I found this reissue. Soups from all over the world, broken down in clever groups, all warm the heart and tummy! I've never, never been disappointed in any recipe from my original book.

I learned to make soups using this book when it was first released. Instructions were easy to follow, and the results was dependable and delicious! I misplaced the book a few years ago so am looking forward to turning to these recipes once again!

Not very practical,
By Lola "simplicity freak" (new york) - See all my reviews

Eels, honeycomb tripe, veal knuckles, pig's feet, gooseberries, oxtail, quahogs and lamb neck - just some of the many oddd ingredients in this book. I was looking for something to make for a simple dinner. This is definitely not it! I was very disappointed. The book was printed in 1982 and there has been no update of any kind.

Sweet,
This review is from: Feast of Soups (Paperback)
I grew up around farm cooks and depression kids. This is the one cookbook that reminds me of they're cooking. When they say add a ham hock to a soup there is a reason outside of cost for this choice of meat and you'll notice it when you eat it. Its simply good wholesome cooking.

I did not care for this book at all. The recipes call for too much fat (butter, heavy cream, sour cream, cheese, etc.) I would've liked to see calorie count because these soups look way too fattening. A major dissapointment.

Need we be surprised? Once again Heriteau delivers an exceptionally tasty assortment from her kitchen to ours...and just in time for me to add it to my Christmas-giving list. She is truly blessed, as are we, in turn!
