Magnificent Singer,

Laurel Masse is truly one of the finest singers I've ever heard. I have to admit that I am graced with her presence on my own recording and I do play on one cut of Feather and Bone, but that's because I'm such a big fan of hers. All of the pieces on Feather and Bone are stylistically very different and she proves her artistry on each cut. Jazz lovers look for her new album, Heart and Soul, classic ballads, out later this year -- I got a preview, it's gorgeous.

I recorded this CD over ten years ago now, and I am still proud of it. "Feather and Bone" is different from most of my other recordings, and the making of it was a profound spiritual experience. I thank all of you who have enjoyed it, and found comfort in it. There will be sequel eventually. For now, once Amazon has run out, the CD will still be available through my website.
Blessings to you all, Laurel Massé

Chansons d'Esprit,

This is about as far away from the Manhattan Transfer as you can get. The album is essentially Laurel Masse's haunting voice, either totally alone or complemented by such sparse instrumentation as a crystal bowl or fiddle, intoning ancient, medieval, baroque or folk tunes. If you listen to it through headphones (recommended) you can get a sense of her swaying as she sings. Ironically, I think my favourite track is "Radiant Flame of Gold" where she doesn't sing but recites "prayers, blessings and curses" from the Carmina Gadelica over an hypnotic rhythm of frame drums.

This has to be the most beautiful singing I have ever heard. A perfect voice! I am more suprised that she hasn't had more music out there!
This music is similar to chant music. You find a comfortable, peaceful place and turn it on.... and go where it takes you. This ex-manhattan transfer sure has had her troubles. But it is nice to see her back in the saddle and putting others to shame. I only hope to hear more of her wonderful voice.
