Book Description

The life of Jacque Winters has not been easy. After being abused by her father and shutting herself off socially, she was kidnapped by strangers. The good news is that her kidnappers are kind. The bad news? She is now forced to live in a society controlled by men, which is practically her worst nightmare.
Despite her promises to never fall in love, one man is proving those promises to be extremely difficult to keep. He chips away at her barriers with kindness, and soon he may have access into her heart. On her pursuit of happiness, Jacque realizes that in order to truly be satisfied with life, she'll have to come to terms with her past.
She needs to figure out whether her future is worth sacrificing in order to save the life she had left behind.

80,000 words. Recommended for ages 17+

It was a good thing I never listened to evil temptations.
I held out my hand, and he took it. His grip was warm, strong, and forcibly relaxed. John’s touch didn't give my stomach butterflies or send electricity racing through my body. Instead, it ignited a flame of fear inside my heart.
Here was a man who was strong enough, fast enough, and smart enough to seriously harm me. He was able to rip my freedom out from under my feet, and he was even planning on it in the near future. At that moment, I realized that having beauty meant absolutely nothing if I didn't have freedom.
This scenario might have been romantic if observed from the safety of a book or a movie. Being here, actually being here, it was terrifying. A confession of that magnitude might have made a crazier woman excited and thrilled. Another woman’s heart might have gone all ‘aflutter’ with the thought of John being her boyfriend. Another woman would have blushed and batted her eyelashes and said some noteworthy double entendre.
It was a good thing I wasn't simply another woman.
I shook his hand, met his gaze, and said, “May the best one win.”

This book was amazing I started this book at 9:00pm . I finished it at 5:00. It was an amazing book for so many reasons. I thought I was going to find 2 yr.old fiction but instead I found a book that kept me guessing what was going to happen next. This book is a ROMANCE ADVENTURE

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent start! January 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre. (I am a sucker for romantic sci-fi/fantasy and have recently rediscovered the joyful angst of YA fiction.)

This story was occasionally as lightly entertaining and predictable as I expected it to be, but I particularly enjoyed experiencing an entirely new culture/species (and its specific gender issues) from the heroine's perspective. The heroine was sensitively and convincingly written (and I loved the brief glimpses of the hero's POV). The emotional impact of the book was substantial; and the sexual/romantic tension between the hero and heroine was very nicely developed. I also found the fantasy world the author created to be credible and creative (which is often not the case in romantic sci-fi/fantasy ... grumble). The story starts a little slowly; and for a while, things are confusing for the reader as well as the heroine, but I think that this works well because we empathize with her that much quicker. (If, like me, you get a little impatient just a few pages in, stick with it and you won't be disappointed.)

A few criticisms - I would have liked to know more facts about the heroine's back story - how and why she ended up where she did. (Perhaps these will come in later books in a series?) I'll admit that like another reviewer, I also had a bit of an issue with the ending. Having the romantic conflict build up in my mind, I was really looking forward to the final chase and seeing how the author would resolve this with the sweet playfulness of previous interactions (especially after the suspense of the preceding chapters). And then it just wasn't there as I imagined it to be. The actual ending was emotionally neater and probably more morally/intellectually acceptable, just not what I was hoping for.

I did get this book free; but I look forward to seeing this author develop other characters and worlds, and would be very willing to pay to read them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepy and original December 26, 2012

Featherlight is an impressive debut YA novel from a young writer: an intriguing and exhilarating blend of sci-fi, fantasy, romance and some hard gritty realism.

In this story we are drawn into the troubled life of Jacqueline Winter, a girl with attitude. She's had to be tough in order to survive what her short life has thrown at her. And when events take a very unexpected turn Jacqueline has to draw on her last reserves of strength and determination to find her place, and maybe even happiness, in an alien world.

A stunning achievement. I look forward to the next book from this talented author.

5.0 out of 5 stars original and enchanting July 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book in a day. The characters were well written and the story was a breath of fresh air. As a dedicated sci fi fantasy reader it is so nice to find a clever story that doesn't get so involved in it's own technology it forgets that good stories are about the feelings that motivate the characters in them. Jacque was an interesting heroine. The author was able to take a weak, frightened young woman and let me, the reader, watch her transform into someone brave, determined and quite extraordinary. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for fantasy filled with beauty and excitement. I just wish it had been longer

I have reviewed this book many times, so many that people may be tiring of me, but this is my favorite book. Therefore every time I read it, around once a month, I have so many new things to say!!!!! You fall in love with the characters, yes, especially john. This story is heart wrenchingly beautiful. This book is a must read!!!!

Good story but many editing errors. The book kept me interested in the story, but I found that somebody did not edit the book with the details of wording and punctuation.
