3.0 out of 5 stars feathers brush my heart
I find the book to be nicely written but a little farfetched. I think some people search for things that aren't there. I lost my mother when I was fourteen and I think I have looked for signs all of my life. Maybe I am just a skeptic.

I found Feathers on the New Release table in the bookstore only two weeks after my mother died suddenly. The stories by the courageous women who share their experiences and contacts with their mothers has helped me tremendously as I stumble through my own grief. I had a very powerful experience just five hours after my mother died that shook my confidance in my own sanity. I mentioned it to two close friends who gave me discreet looks of distress for my mental state and disbelief. Fortunately, after reading Feathers, my experience was validated for me, now I can see this event for the blessing that it was. No one but my mother would have known how important the message was to me.

One thing I especially appreciated was that the stories were presented in a religion-neutral way, meaning that the author wasn't pushing any particular view. She allowed each person to express whatever was important to them at the time. Being more aware of the many different ways I can initiate and maintain a connection with my mother is the most helpful information I could recieve. I have already sent six copies to friends who are in mouring for their own mothers. Anyone who has lost someone close to them will benefit from the awareness that develops. This book is a public service to anyone in mourning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Conforting and inspirational, November 1, 2004

I lost my mother last year. It was so fast, so traumatizing, so painful. The only thing I could do to try to get through this difficult time was read, read and read. I read about 10 books dealing with death. I found ones too academic, others too unreal...it was hard. Then I found this book one day browsing in Amazon.com and it certainly was the best book for me. It is not religious, or a book trying to explain just the psychologycal steps a mourner goes through. It is a book that speaks to your heart. And, eventhough I have already read it, I keep it to be re-read when I feel I need someone to speak to my heart and someone who has gone though the same loss I have had.
It should be a book every daughter, every woman should have.
I am greatful I found it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book to read if you are close to Mom., July 30, 2002

I am very close to my mother and as years pass I fear the inevitable. I think I purchased this book to convince myself that when my mom passes, she will not be far from me.
This is a collaboration of short stories written by many different woman who have had many different realtionships with their mothers. Some of the stories seemed far fetched to me, or I had questions of "what would give you even the slightest idea that that particular thing or occurance could have been a sign from your mother???" but more often or not, it was touching to know these woman, what ever they may have expierenced, gave them comfort that their moms were letting them know they were still loved and not forgotten. And then they were some stories that sent me reeling with tears and chills up my spine. Either way, it is a good read.

Feathers Brush My Heart is a collection of real stories that tell about the love between mothers and daughters-an everlasting bond that goes beyond this life. Feathers brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart at the same time. I read stories in this book that were so much like my own story that it opened my eyes further to the great pain my own mothers' passing will bring to me. Mothers and daughters-through all the ups and downs--have an unfailing love that this book makes very clear. If you've ever wondered if it is possible to be touched from the other side by a loved one, this book will clarify the answer-yes.

This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories of Mothers Touching Their Daughters' Lives After Death (Hardcover)
Seventy women from various backgrounds openly share their personal stories of "gifts" received from their Mothers after they passed on. The tales are heartwarming, comforting, emotional and above all dominated by a common denominator; the power of a Mother's everlasting love. A wonderful message to pass on to any relative, friend or loved one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, April 17, 2002

To know that there are other women out there who have also had experiences like mine, made me feel like I wasn't alone. What a wonderfully healing experience it is to read these stories. It creates a safe place for other women to share their own stories without ridicule or judgement. Bravo! to all of you courageous pioneers who have paved the way for women (and men) everywhere. This is a touching and thought-provoking book about a connectedness we all know we have, but are afraid to share. Be prepared to get goosebumps and have tissues nearby.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Look Into Our Hearts, April 19, 2002
This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories of Mothers Touching Their Daughters' Lives After Death (Hardcover)
I was truely amazed with this book. The sadness and grief of the women at the loss of their mothers is poignant. The joy of realizing the signs their mothers sent to let them know they were OK is touching and nothing short of a miracle. Each story was unique yet the book showed the common thread of loss, saddness and hope shared by each of the writers. What a wonderful collection of stories that make us think not only of lost mothers but other special people in our lives.
The women who wrote these stories are truely courageous. Their willingness to share their pain and hope on a subject that is not well accepted in American culture is a blessing to all of us who have had similar experiences. Now there is an opening to share these experiences without feeling like you are alone in experiencing them.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cardinal, January 7, 2007
By
I just finished reading this book and sat wondering how my mother would contact me. I love feeding the birds and began to wonder what kind of bird my mother would be if she choose to visit. A cardinal, so beautiful and bright, that's what she'd be. I'd made up my mind.

I put the book down, walked to the kitchen and stood in shock. There sat a cardinal in the lilac bush, just several feet away. I'll never forget that day.

My mother passed away 25 years ago and this was the first time I can say I truly felt her presence.

Sadly, I will now give this book to my niece. I just attended her mother's funeral. I don't want her to wait 25 years.

I bought this for a friend who just lost her mother. I read it first and found it to be extraordinarily inspiring. Out of the 3 books I gave my friend, she found this one to be the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dedicated to my mother .....and yours, September 9, 2002
By
Linda Hartley (Arizona, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feathers Brush My Heart: True Stories of Mothers Touching Their Daughters' Lives After Death (Hardcover)
The words in the opening dedication page, For my mother...and yours...what a lovely way to enter this gift of love, to our hearts, from all of the hearts who shared their experiences after the loss of their mothers. The experiences were all unique and wonderful affirmations that our loved ones are always willing to be near us in "whatever way is meaningful" to us. So it seems although the experiences were very different, according to each authors perspective and interpretation... I found all of them to be exquisitely profound and beautiful! The stories that resonated with my own experience were the ones in which nature played a large part...especially hummingbirds and butterflies that appear at special moments, and feel comforting, and really are signs from our loved ones,as I experienced these and many more wonderful signs from my son and then my mother...and we are always connected by our love for our love never ends.As I walked past the books at [local store] to see if they had Angel Cards (they did)...I know that all of the ladies who shared their stories believe and understand what I mean when I say that "this book found me!"
