Editorial Reviews

2012 album from the Native American band fronted by Mato Nanji. This release stretches Mato's already established musicianship into a hard-hitting, guitar-driven package of musical excursions and playful songwriting. Joining Mato on the opening song is the soulful Jonny Lang. 'Free Yourself, Free Your Mind' is a hook laden track providing the groundwork for two true guitar masters to jam it out without borders or fences. The duo has been working together on the Experience Hendrix Tour for a number of years along with other guitar heroes including Kenny Wayne Shepard, Robert Randolph and Los Lobos legend, David Hidalgo. Mato mentions what an honor and learning experience the tour has been for him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new cd June 8, 2012
By R.J.N.
Format:Audio CD
The new cd from Indigenous is brilliant, Mato is in top form at every level, his searing guitar work is and always has been the highlight of this band, his vocals are sounding better than ever and the new original songs are all outstanding.
At 70 minutes long sometimes there will be some filler but not here, this one is great from start to finish.
Another plus is that Horse ( now he is going by American Horse) is back in the band, Mato is the star no doubt, but when Horse is there with his percussion work it just makes them that much better.
Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff May 24, 2012

Mato has definately has hit a stride with this guitar tone and matched with his soulful singing makes this a treat. Whoever idea to have Mike Varney produce the new cd-give that person a raise! Varney worked with some guitar shredders in the past and his production to this cd is well tuned. I've always enjoyed and appreciated Mato's guitar tone and this cd the guitar tone is like another member of the band-it's amazing.
Long time Indigenous fans should enjoy it as well as newbies. Pick up the new cd-its worth the wait since the last disc was released.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's Back May 22, 2012
By MC Lock
Format:Audio CD
Mato takes a step back in time and provides a fiery explosion of guitar riffs reminiscent of his earlier days...With this release, he leaves no question that he still has what it takes to lead the electric blues charge...

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding May 22, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
13 electric blues originals showing the talent Nanji has had in his earlier works. His guitar is better than ever and his vocals are what they are. Not a bad cut among them. Enjoy this recording!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mato IS BACK! May 11, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
And sounding better than ever! This is the return of Mato Nanji and his new incarnation of Indigenous. Strong guitar playing, he sounds fluid and on top of his game. With the addition of Horse, the Indigenous "signature sound" is well in hand. The songwriting is soulful and bluesy as ever. If you were losing hope in ever hearing Mato and Indigenous again, the wait is over! Even though he never completely disappeared from the musical fiber of the blues, it seems as if he was on a journey to find an opportunity like this and, revive the "sleeping giant" that we all have grown to love. They are coming to Lincoln Nebraska in June and, I will be there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mato Nanji and Indigenous are THE BOMB! May 18, 2013
By Egirl
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Mato Nanji is one of the unsung heroes of modern American blues guitarists. On electric guitar he is reminiscent of Stevie Ray and even Hendrix. Paired with Johnny Lang they are unbeatable--two young guys with heart, soul and rockin' abilities.

I also recommend The Acoustic Sessions -- when Mato plays acoustic the music is clean, uncluttered, with clear vocals and harmonies.

I'd buy any music by Indigenous or Mato without hearing it first because they are that good.

Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
i have all their lp's and think they are one of the many underrated groups around but then again if it is not commercial then you audience is limited to those of us who are willing to search out real talent and they do have it i often state that they remind me of srv reincarnate
