I replaced a smaller PVA with this one based on user reviews and cost. I installed it as directed and used unions and it went on OK, BUT the instructions failed to say the small pressure relief valves were not closed. When I pressurized the system the open valves shot out streams of water which blew the plastic protective caps off into the bushes never to be found. I had to scrounge around to replace them. The mfg. should warn about this and that's why I rated it only 4 stars. I also noted the instructions said to protect the unit from freezing which I did, a point previous reviewers apparently did not notice based on complaints about freezing. I think sprinkler companies don't bother with this bit of extra precaution because many of my neighbors and almost all commercial applications have uninsulated PVAs. I also insulated the exposed PVC pipes to prevent sunlight damage and freezing.

A lot more solid than those plastic versions. The bleed valves were not completely closed so I ended up taking a bath and having to search for the black plastic caps that cover the ends. Not a performance issue. Instructions are short, concise, and accurate.
