About the Author

Steven M. Statsinger is a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society, Federal Defender Division SDNY. Mr. Statsinger was a staff attorney with the Appeals Bureau, Federal Defender Division and the Criminal Appeals Bureau of The Legal Aid Society. He is also an adjunct associate professor of paralegal studies at New York University, School of Continuing and Professional Studies in the Department of Finance, Law, and Taxation.

His publications include Practice Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and a contribution entitled "Appeals in Guideline Sentencing" to a comprehensive guide to the appeals process in cases involving the United States Sentencing Guidelines. He has also written several articles on federal criminal practice for Defense News, an in-house quarterly publication distributed to defense attorneys nationwide.

He received his B.S. from Brown University in 1984, where he received a Department of Psychology Teaching Fellowship, and his J.D. in 1987 from Columbia University School of Law.
