This book will not take you very far.,
By Chris Brown (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Federal Law Enforcement Careers : Testing & Interviewing Guide (Paperback)
Although the book description indicates that over 100 federal agencies are listed, you won't find much more than listings - names and addresses of the agencies - in the book. This will not take you very far if you want to be a competitive federal applicant. Some of the advice on exams and interviewing is helpful, but most of it is so obvious that even teenagers seeking their first job probably would find it too basic. The author has no experience in law enforcement or federal employment, which I think affects her credibility to write a federal law enforcement career guide. There are better choices, such as "Guide to Careers in Federal Law Enforcement," by Thomas Ackerman, and "Your Criminal Justice Career," by Frank Schmalleger. Ackerman's book is the ultimate resource for federal law enforcement applicants, and Schmalleger provides a good overview of other opportunities in criminal justice. If you're interested in the history of the agencies, I recommend "Handbook of Federal Police and Investigative Agencies," by Don Torres. I suppose if you had only McClish's book you'd be better off than if you had nothing at all, but her book definitely would not be my first choice.

Not very helpful.,
By "cscott54321" (Mesa, Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Federal Law Enforcement Careers : Testing & Interviewing Guide (Paperback)
I was disappointed to discover that this book has only 14 pages of GENERAL information concerning exams, with NO details on specific tests given by the agencies. It is written at about the sixth-grade level, and the so-called "job descriptions" consist of only ONE SENTENCE and the agency address. I would not recommend this one.

Where's the Beef?,

Agency names and addresses. Answers to obvious questions. A few hints. Unfortunately, nothing else.
