yo this is the best cd i have ever bought except for a 2pac cd.Theese fools get so damn hyphy on wax its not even funny. If your looking for a cd to ride to, chill to or go stupid to, this is the one.I like every song on the cd. Im already waiting for there next cd, whenever it may be. I saw these guys preform the opening act for murphy lee in petaluma and they were even more hyphy then i thought they would be.If you dont know about the Federation or know what "hyphy" is then DEFINATLY buy this cd. You will not be let down. dont burn the cd, buy it so they can keep puutin some mo slumpers out. Santa Rosa gets Hyphy to boy, yup!

If you are looking for a hardcore rap album with a lot of profanity and some real hard gangsta lyrics, then Federation's self-titled album is for you. They are gritty, grimey and quite obviously are not trying to appease radio or crossover listeners. They seem true to their style. They almost remind me of NWA in their early days. Can they even have one whole verse without calling a woman a hoe or a bitch or using a curse word? Who knows. On to the music.

"We Ride" is a bouncy track that you can ride to. Track number 3 has a unique sound with a background noise that can proof to be annoying. Legendary West Coast artist E-40 is featured on this track. "Ghetto Love Song" is your standard thugs need love song. It is a decent track. The song "What If I Had A Gun" has a crazy track with a driving beat. This song features Twista and Undaflow. The album doesn't feature many well known guest artists outside of Twista and E-40 but artists Next Level, Battle Loc, El Dorado Red, and Kinsmokie.

The song "In Love With A Hoodrat" is a street and grimey song about a neighborhood rat that used to "love to slurp and lick." "Hoes In Here" is a another song that doesn't do much to praise women.

What makes the Federation album unique in a sense is it is so raw and so grimey and has such a sense of "I don't give a f**k," that it's almost refreshing to see a rap album that isn't studio formula. It's almost like, and this is not a diss, a really hot demo. Like Federation just went in the studio and made a really hot album with not suits hanging over them telling them how to make the record.

"You Might See Me" is a bouncy song that has potential to be a radio single. The song "Damn" has a real old school feel.

Although, they are from the West Coast, Federation's debut album has a real down south like Texas kind of vibe. If you are looking for a grimey real hard core rap album check out Federation's debut album Federation.

Some might call this album cohesive and, although I do find a lot of the tracks to be rather too similar in tone (except for "Ghetto Love Song" which stands out as a persuasive ballad about the damage lovers can cause each other), I have to say that every song on "The Album" hits hard with a fierce beat and some biting lyrics. Even the usual lame rap skits, though they're on here, are kept brief, limited and they fade into the general album sound. I never skip through anything on this CD because it's completely solid from start to finish. You want hyphy, the Federation delivers and with some worthwhile appearances from other talented artists. 7/10.

collaborators:

02. What is It features El Dorado Red

03. Hyphy features E-40

07. You Don't Want It features Kinsmoke & Battle Loc

10. We Ride features Daz

11. Ghetto Love Song features Next Level

12. In Love with a Hood Rat features Undaflow

14. What if I Had a Gun features Twista & Undaflow

I have been waiting for this CD since december '03!! Bootz on Ice and all that madness (P-Town folks know what I mean!!). thank god it's finally here!! I got two the day it came out (One for the car, one for the house.)! Straight heat. Rick Rock is insane. The lyrics are off the chain. They came real sick with it. These boys deserve way more love from radio... hopefully the new M.D. @ 95.5 in P-Town will hook em up... he does have ties after all...
