From the Publisher
An interdisciplinary study of two Renaissance princes, this book discusses the feud between Federico da Montefeltro and Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta and its effect on their patronage. As each vied for political, economic and artistic domination over the other, they were supported by young, gifted wives. In their struggle for power, the role of the humanist Pope Pius II was of paramount importance.
From the Author
This book, a collaboration between Laurie Adams and Maria Grazie Pernis, describes the rivalry between two Renaissance princces -- Federico da Montefeltro of Urbino and Sigismondo Malatesta of Rimini -- and the role of Pope Pius II in their lifelong feud. Both were excellent tacticians in war and peace, in commissioning major works of art, and in statecraft. But Sigismondo could not shake off his reputation for perversion and heresy, whereas Federico appeared loyal and devout. The story of their rivalry makes for fascinating reading.
