Came right on time. Live CD and Installation DVD are great. This was my first attempt at Linux on the desktop in 10 years and this book was great from the beginner's aspect and as I progress through understanding more it's become a great aid when I opt to read away from the computer.

Have not read cover-cover but has a lot of information, very thorough. I'm not sure if it would be a Linux learning tool but if you want to know the nuances of Fedora 7 this is the book for you

I bought this book thinking I could install Fedora 7 from the CD and learn Fedora/Linux from the book. I was wrong. The book has many pages on how to install Fedora, but tends to rehash the same information over and over.
When I attempted to use the enclosed CD to load Fedora on my PC, I received error messages that my video card had 'driver errors' and my mouse was not configured correctly. This seemed like a resonable/normal sort of error (although my video card and PS2 mouse are not that old) yet, I found the book no help when it came to installation troubleshooting and configuation file settings. I ended up downloading and installing Fedora from the Fedora.org website. Despite the poor installation section, the rest of the book does contain good reference material on using Fedora once your system is up and running. |
