5.0 out of 5 stars Feed Sacks and Bobby Sox
Feed Sacks and Bobby Sox is a delightful book about an era with which people my age (almost 83) can easily relate to!
Memories will flood back for those who lived, and endured, the BIG Depression and World War II and many other experiences completely foreign to succeeding generations.
Read it before you pass on, and pass it on to your kids and grandkids and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Depression era girlhood
I bought this book because I am a student of 20th century history, particulary 1920-1940's. I enjoy first person accounts of this time instead of a dry review of political and government activities. This small book was interesting, but I felt it was probably more for the author's family history than general interest. It was expensive given the size and scope of the...

5.0 out of 5 stars What was it like to be a teenager in America during WWII?, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Feed Sacks and Bobby Sox: A Hoosier Girl Comes of Age During the Great Depression and WWII (Paperback)
What was it like to grow up during the Depression? What was it like to be a teenager on the homefront during WWII? Looking at this time period through the eyes of a girl growing up in rural Indiana provides great insight into these tumultuous times. Those who were alive then will enjoy the memories of dresses made from feed sacks, radio programs like Fibber McGee and Molly, FDR's Fireside Chats, ration books, bobby sox and Frank Sinatra, and those who are younger will learn what their parents or grandparents experienced in their youth. I hope you will read and enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars A taste of how the Greatest Generation grew up, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Feed Sacks and Bobby Sox: A Hoosier Girl Comes of Age During the Great Depression and WWII (Paperback)
Excellent read of real life in Indiana (and much of America) during the Great Depression and WW II.

Unfortunately most of our population today have no clue what life was like before TV, fast cars, satellites, video games, microwave ovens, and cell phones.

This book is a true and very real look into the life of an Indiana girl and her family.

I recommend this book to everyone especially those in the Baby Boomer generation and younger.
