The definitive in ambient compilations -- a must-have!, November 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Feed Your Head, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I consider myself a major ambient music buff, and I consider this CD, along with Feed Your Head 2 and 3, rank among the best in my large collection of music of this type.
Another great Planet Dog/Mammoth record. 90% of their stuff is outstanding!
This music goes way beyond Enigma. It transports you to a world of hypnotic rythymns, sounds of the east (Tibet -- maybe India?) and of spacy dream worlds. An excellect mix of some of the best ambient music I have heard -- very trancendental!
I highly recommend all three in the "Feed Your Head" series. This one I would rank equally with the 2nd. The 3rd is also very good, but with a more electronic sound. "Feed Your Head 3" is similar to "Planet Dub," (also from Mammoth/Planet Dog Records).
If you have heard these, and enjoyed them, I would also recommend the following ambient compilations:
Dimensions in Ambience 1 (Island Records) *****
Sounds From the Ground - Kin (Waveform Records) **** 1/2
All three Baramundi Samplers (Logic Records) ****
One A.D., Two A.D., and Three A.D. (Waveform Records) ****
Amberdelic Space compilation (4 CDs) (Dressed to Kill Records) ****
Air I + II (FAX Records) ****
Celestial Journey (Rising Star) ****
Ambient 2 - Imaginary Landscapes; A Brief History of Ambient, Volume 2 (Virgin) ****
Tranced Out and Dreaming (Mammoth/Planet Dog Records) ***1/2
Banco de Gaia -- Last Train to Llasha (Planet Dog) ****
