4.0 out of 5 stars Better than average melodic rock album, November 10, 2009
This review is from: Feeding the Fire (Audio CD)
Feeding the Fire was the 2004 debut album from (mostly) Italian melodic hard rock group Edge of Forever. The Italian musicians are joined by an American vocalist - Bob Harris of Axe. The band plays a very melodic, not too heavy brand of rock that's on par with bands like Harem Scarem, Gotthard and Talisman (though not quite as impressive as those bands). Speaking of Talisman, that band's bassist, Marcel Jacob (RIP), produced Feeding the Fire and vocalist Jeff Scott Soto provides background vocals on a handful of songs (and does lead vocals on "Prisoner".

With Jacob taking such a prominent role in the songwriting as well as production, Feeding the Fire is a very well-written, well-put together album. The songs have tremendous melodies, great guitar work, impressive vocals, and just an all-around great old school melodic rock feel. Soto's work on "Prisoner" is the obvious highlight, but songs like "Mother of Darkness", "Dance Into the Fire" and the title track are all great examples of what Edge of Forever has to offer.

Edge of Forever released a follow-up album (Let the Demon Rock N Roll) a year later, but hasn't been heard from since. Hopefully they'll be back before too long. I'd recommend Feeding the Fire to most fans of melodic rock, particularly fans of Talisman and Human Clay.
