5.0 out of 5 stars Great remake CD
Maysa displays her smooth groove essence with her second "remake" CD, "Feel The Fire". She covers alot of R&B/Quiet Storm goodies with her own style.

....Shanachie Records isn't helping matters! I just recieved Maysa's new 'Feel The Fire' CD, and it only took a few plays for me to write this review. Before Maysa landed on Shanachie Records to record the previous 'Sweet Soul Music' CD in 2006, she released a string of GREAT CDs on the Rice & N-Coded Labels ('All My Life', 'Out Of The Blue', and 'Smooth Sailing'). While Maysa's vocals are stellar on 'Feel The Fire', the music & production cannot touch the quality exhibited on her pre 2006 CDs.

IMO, Maysa was doing fine at her previous recording home (also as the featured vocalist for Incognito!), and to relegate her to this 2nd rate record label should be a crime! Please, don't get me wrong, I have all of Maysa's CDs (as well as those by Incognito), but these 10 track Shanachie CDs are worth NO MORE THAN $9.99...SERIOUSLY. Maysa, PLEASE return to a record label that will help you release CDs up to your high standards.
You deserve much better!!!
Peace, SD

3.0 out of 5 stars Maysa Deserves Live Musicians, July 15, 2007
This review is from: Feel the Fire (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Maysa's voice for many years. Going back to her period with Incognito, I always have enjoyed the sounds produced by her vocal cords. Given the nature of this recording, I looked forward to its release for many months. I was so certain it would be a major success that I order four copies -- one for myself and the remaining ones as gifts -- well in advance of its release. Upon receipt, I listened to it several times. As forecast, I was not disappointed by the vocals. I was, however, disappointed by the synthesizer -- the only "instrument" -- that supported this superior vocalist. Like most vocalists, Maysa needs, and deserves, the support of acoustic instruments. The synthesizer left many voids. This would be a superior recording with horns, drums, bass, guitar, and an occasion string instrument. The absences rendered this an average or below average recording. Maysa has earned the right to be supported by live musicians in the studio. Further compromises of this nayture will destroy her brand. I hope she will heed this message.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissasitfied!!, July 20, 2007
This review is from: Feel the Fire (Audio CD)
I have been a long time FAN of MAYSA ..but.. I'm trying to understand what has happen to her. Going back as far as INCOGNITO I have enjoyed her style and voice but this CD I have much regrets. The previous CD I did enjoy but this one has made me very unhappy knowing that it could have been better since she wants to do remakes. WHERE ARE THE LIVE MUSCIANS AT????

2.0 out of 5 stars Disapointed, Maysa's KARAOKE CD, July 15, 2007

I love maysa's voice and music which had been pleased my ear for years. But this is under average of her music.
Her music on those Top 10 classic songs are only KARAOKE quality ( Record company wants Easy-money )
Not good back music-a bad arragement with cheap sound.
I don't think anybody would get impressed by her singing of "FEEL THE FIRE",After people listen Stephanie Mill's version & Teddy's or Peabo Bryson's version (original).
I want Maysa would go back what she used to do

5.0 out of 5 stars The "FEMALE LUTHER VANDROSS), August 26, 2007
By
This review is from: Feel the Fire (Audio CD)
I really don't know what all the others were hearing, but I am old school and new school, and I know a good rendition of an old song when I hear it.Yes I was young and I was there listening to all of the artist of whom Maysa is singing all of there songs, including her last cd" Sweet Classic Soul". I Want to tell you that back in the day(the eighties)nobody complained when the late great Luther Vandross did it(and boy did he sing 'em!!)Well I am here to tell you that Maysa Leake is the "FEMALE LUTHER VANDROSS!!" in my opinion because so far i've heard some good stuff from other artist doing the classics thing(Laylah,Pattie,Jeffrey,Vesta,Regina, etc)and I love them, but nobody does it with the feeling and groove and smoothness better than Maysa!!! As for as I'm concerned these to projects solidify what she has done with all of her albums before these which were neo-soul/jazz/R&B.And thru those cds she has gained a huge following in the smooth jazz ranks(and all you smooth jazz lovers know and understand what I'm talking about),thus that is probably one of the reasons why she chose to do these projects!(not to mention she probably loves all those songs like all of us do!) I'll tell ya what,Maysa reeled me in with her preveous tracks(my favorite"Friendly Pressure" love it!),kept me here with all of here guest vocals on countless of smooth jazz and Soul and r&b cd's(if you don't know 'em look 'em up!),but when I heard these two cd's Maysa will be one of my favorite artists for LIFE!!(which means that like you ,I can't wait to see what she's going to do NEXT!!!!) Love you Maysa!!

Maysa's work is outstanding. Her voice is strong and clear, and what she does to those classic hits is simply amazing! I had never heard of her prior to a few weeks ago when I heard the song 'Feel the Fire" and thought it was Lalah Hathaway. She has a soulful sound that touches the listener's heart as well as the ears.
