Feel the Genius,

Glenn got a lot of stick from Deep Purple purists for doing what he was asked, so he went and recorded "Play Me Out" and, save for his loyal fan base, got hammered for that too. This album shows Glenn as that talent he is...great songs, superb bass playing and an unbelievable voice. If there was ever a post Deep Purple masterpiece, it is undoubtably this. Pure Glenn, pure class. Five stars don't do it justice.

Varied effort by Hughes,

Glenn goes for a mixed bag of sonic tricks on Feel and turns out more successes than misses. There's everything from straight-ahead no frills hard rock of Big Time and Redline (both cowritten by Pat Thrall) to his not-so-closet funk affection on Speak Your Mind and a cover of Stevie Wonder's Maybe Your Baby. Sprinkled throughout the middle are 80's satin and candlelight (almost Boltonish) ballads like Save Me Tonight (I'll Be Waiting) to the smooth croon of Coffee & Vanilla, dancing almost as elegantly of said couple Rogers and Astaire. Problem is, this album is a little bit too schitzoid in it's ambition to cover so many stylings, and winds up sounding like a couple or three albums put into one. But, if album cohesiveness is at the bottom of your Hughes priority list then Feel should sit just fine in your headphones. As always, Glenn masterfully vocalizes whatever he chooses to tackle and it's fun to hear his bass popping and traversing all over the funk tunes. Though I have to say for overall enjoyability, I prefer his next release, Addiction, over Feel. But you have to give him credit for not bowing to any particular trend here and taking you on a rollercoaster ride of sorts.

Glen Hughes just doesn't make many, if any bad music. This Cd just rocks, hard to take it out of the player, it has a little bit of everything & it all works. His vocals, bass work & writing is just tremdous. Do yourself a favor & buy this one. Check out my reviews & Rock & Roll.
