I'm Feelin' Good About This CD!,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Feel Good With the Blues (Audio CD)
First let me say I've seen Lorna Willhelm's live performance; I don't feel the album quite conveys the energy she gives at a live show. That said the album is still great; I love listening to it. Overall the sound reminds me of r & b material recorded in the sixties; the sound has a live feel without all the techno gimmicks and compression common on a lot of todays recordings. The album is not a technical gem but then neither are some albums by the Stones and Dylan. It's these tiny imperfections that keep me interested; rather than distract they give Lorna's performance a feeling of intimacy. The selection of songs is nice; it seems as if there is a theme to the album: you feel bad with the blues/you feel good with the blues. The arrangemnts are fresh and the album flows easily from song to song. This album may not appeal to traditional blues lovers as it is a fusion of blues, jazz and rock complete with scat on the track "Fat Cats Tattoos". One of the standout songs is "Just Like Dynamite" a cover tune also recorded by Roomful of Blues. I kept thinking the Dixie Chicks singin' the blues. Also the title track could certainly cross over into something you might hear on "Jammin' Country". And wow can that sax man play! He and the guitarist are certainly standouts. The only gripe I really have is that the album seems too short even with over forty minutes of material; time sure flies when you're havin' fun. All in all I Feel Good With the Blues shows the potential of a new blues diva.

I've had the pleasure of getting this cd to airplay on my blues station. This is a solid cd. Lorna brings easy listening blues/oldies styling with solid vocals. I would suspect jazz lovers will like this cd as well as blues lovers, probably even folks that are into easy country.Lorna's definitely someone that will be making more. This is a very solid start, no fillers. I highly recommend buying this cd. www.blueicewater.com (Blue IceWater Radio)
