A window into the best of Hooker's music,

This review is from: I Feel Good (Audio CD)
Couldn't agree more with Lonnie. This album is amazing. Love the trio. Sounds like blues when there's no producer demanding 12-bar structure, AAB verses, and "tuned" guitars. Not going to venture into any discussion on authenticity or whatever, but this recording sounds like three phenomenal musicians drinking a bottle of wine and playing great, loose, very real music.

YES, this cd is "laid back", BUT "sloppy...and hard to listen too(sic)", NO WAY!!! You've got the GREAT Lowell Fulsom on back up guitar and the AWESOME P.S Leary on drums: WHAT A COOKIN' TRIO!!! If you don't have the PORTRAIT box, of which this is identical with its disc 10, then this is a MUST HAVE!!! And the icing on the cake: it's dirt cheap!!! YOU CAN"T GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE!!! 'Nuf said! (P.S. This review is on the SPOTLIGHT cd, NOT the JEWEL version!!!)

Like a Rehearsal,

The performance on this CD is really really unpolished. John Lee loosely meanders through the songs on this CD. He does hit stride at times - especially on Dazie Mae, but overall the band (drums, Bass and Hooker) are just too laid back and sloppy. I love John Lee Hookers' music but this CD is hard to listen too.
