I was not that thrilled with the female firefighter Francey. For reasons that were not rational to me, she would not have a normal relationship with Alex. She was drawn to him but would not follow her feelings. She said they should just be friends. Apparently she felt no one could be a spouse to her due to the overtime and high risk demands of her job. When she and...

This review is from: Feel the Heat: America's Bravest (Harlequin Superromance No. 871) (Paperback)
At the Templeton warehouse in Rockford, the fire department makes a forced entry to try to rescue Alex Templeton, who is trapped inside the burning building. Firefighter Francesca Cordaro rescues an unconscious Alex, but breaks her arm while dragging him out of the blaze. Alex suffers from smoke inhalation. He and his rescuer are hospitalized. Feeling a bit better, Alex goes to thank the man who saved his life only to greet the beautiful Francesca.

Alex wants to see Francesca, but she refuses even though she acknowledges to him that she is attracted to him. She informs Alex that he belongs in the affluent world of her mother and not those of a working stiff like she and her firefighting father. As Alex tries to prove to Francesca that their growing love will cement a permanent relationship between them, she knows how her mother deserted her father, her, and her two brothers.

Readers will FEEL THE HEAT as Kathryn Shay provides a realistic look at the personal and professional lives of firefighters. The story line centers on the inferno blazing between Francesca and Alex. However, the secondary characters augment the tale by showing how fire fighters make up a cohesive team that supports one another even away from the station. Ms. Shay will provide a follow-up treat by telling the story of two secondary characters who deserve their tale told in her "America's Bravest" trilogy.

It was an excellent book. The characters were realistic, thanks to the author's research. To me, it showed how foolish pride can stand in the way of a relationship (between friends or family).

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel the Heat: America's Bravest (Harlequin Superromance No. 871), February 13, 2010
This review is from: Feel the Heat: America's Bravest (Harlequin Superromance No. 871) (Paperback)
I like to read Harlequin Supper romance books. Before I started to read this book previously I read another book in this series and like it. So I looked for other books from this series. In the beginning of my review I want to say some positive things, what I like about this book. Kathryn Shay created very realistic characters. This book about firefighters life and how their families cope with hardships of their profession. Like I said I liked main characters very well, because they portrait strong, responsible people, who loves their families and save other peoples life's. The story is involved around 2 people, firefighter Francey Cordaro and CEO of Templeton Industries Alex Templeton. Their relationship started, when Francey Cordaro saved Alex Templeton's life. He was impressed with her strength and beauty. He liked her and asked her out, but Francey Cordaro refused. Fran's family was ruined because her parents came from the different societies. Her father came from firefighters dynasty and her mother was a daughter of a rich parents. They have 3 kids together and than, her mother couldn't cope with stress of being firefighters wife and raising 3 kids and she left. Just like Frans parents, Fran and Alex t belonged to different society and she didn't want to make the same mistake her parents did. I like how Katheryn Shay write down how Frans and Alex's relationship grown up. But I really completely dislike, how she reunited Frans parents. This supported characters felt unrealistic to me, like an any abandoned kid's dream, that his or her parents one day reunite and would live happily ever after. But other characters was real and alive and book have good story. If you like family drama and books about strong firefighters, this book for you.

She was drawn to him but would not follow her feelings. She said they should just be friends. Apparently she felt no one could be a spouse to her due to the overtime and high risk demands of her job. When she and Alex finally start having more of a relationship, she was inconsiderate to him. The story was not enjoyable due to her character.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new author for my TBR, June 16, 2000

I just recently discovered Kathryn Shay and Feel the Heat was the first book I read.

I loved the strong heroine, Francey, who is a kickass firefighter and saves Alex, the hero. He is a little shocked to discover that his savior is a woman, and is instatnly attracted.

Kathryn Shay's research shows, but she doesn't beat you in the head with it. You feel as if you are in the firefighters' shoes and everything rings true. Her characters are also well crafted, Francey and Alex are truly each other's soulmates.

Maybe it's because I'm a firefighter's wife, but this is one series I couldn't pass up. The characters were very believable and descriptions of a firefighter's daily life allowed you to really "Feel the Heat"....Both from the fire and the romance!

I recommend all three books to everyone. Thank you, Kathryn Shay.

3.0 out of 5 stars FEEL THE HEAT, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Feel the Heat: America's Bravest (Harlequin Superromance No. 871) (Paperback)
FROM THE BACK COVER:

When firefighter Francesca Cordaro saves the life of Alex Templeton, she can't help noticing how very attractive the man is. But Francey knows the rule. firefighters who don't want to get hurt shouldn't get involved with outsiders. Unfortunately, Alex doesn't believe in rules. And he can't understand why a woman as brave as Francey won't take a chance on love.

2.0 out of 5 stars Torturing Alex could be title., January 26, 2000
This review is from: Feel the Heat: America's Bravest (Harlequin Superromance No. 871) (Paperback)
While I understood Francey's hesitations, this carried on for too long. I really started to dislike her and Alex. They both seemed weak. I did like the romance with the parents, but it too seemed awfully tortured. All and all, this book had too much angst. K. Shay writes real well. I just didn't like her people. (And there's way too much-- are they or aren't they, going on with the sexual aspect of the book.)
