IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT . . .

Photographer Lili DeLuca spends all her time managing her family's Italian restaurant, instead of following her dream of getting an MFA. When famous British chef Jack Kilroy unexpectedly challenges her father to a cook-off, Lili decides she's tired of playing it safe and vows to seduce the tempting Brit. But once a video of her and Jack kissing goes viral and her luscious butt starts trending on Twitter, Lili fears she's cooked up a recipe for disaster . . .

. . . GET INTO THE BEDROOM

Jack Kilroy's celebrity has left him feeling used and used up. While Lili's oh-so-sexy moans when she tastes his delicious creations turn him on, he's even more aroused by how unimpressed this beautiful, funny woman is with his fame. He knows they could be amazing together, if she could only see past his bitch fork-wielding fan base. Now, as he's about to start a new prime time TV cooking show, can Jack convince Lili to realize her own ambitions - and turn up the heat in his kitchen?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

A large Italian family crosses saucepans with a celebrity TV chef in the first of Meader’s Hot in the Kitchen series. Younger daughter Lili DeLuca, the large and lovely good girl in the family, has taken over for her mother as manager of the family’s Chicago restaurant after her mother goes into treatment for cancer. Meanwhile, her skinnier older sister Cara continues to work as the producer of British chef Jack Kilroy’s cable cooking show. When the venue for his Chicago cook-off is closed unexpectedly, Cara calls on the family to help out by having her chef father host the cooking show at the family restaurant. Lili and Jack hit it off and are caught kissing, a video of which goes viral, and suddenly Lili is known as Jack’s fat chick. But Jack isn’t as shallow as his media image of a hunky sex god implies. In fact, all he wants is to get to know Lili and be a good brother to his little sister. Meader pulls in all the romance tropes for this pleasingly familiar romp. --Pat Henshaw

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Ok ladies! Put on your aprons and get ready to for a great book. Feel the Heat by Kate Meader is one of the funniest books I have read so far. Let me tell you a little about it.

Liliana DeLuca is a photographer who manages her families Italian Restaurant, takes care of everyone in her family and is generally over looked by everyone. One night she is on her way home from a costume party (dressed as Wonder Woman no less) and she sees the lights and hears noises coming from the kitchen of her families restaurant. That is when she takes matters into her own hands and smack world renowned chief Jack Kilroy over the head with a frying pan. Her older sister has booked Jack cooking show Jack of all Trades to tape in there, she is wants Lili to hook up with Jack for a one night stand to get help her get over being dumped by her fathers business partner.

Jack Kilroy is on his way to even bigger and better things. He is opening a new restaurant in Chicago, owns other around the world, is writing cook books, has a new cooking show in the works and wants people cooking is recipes on his cookware. He is driven, confident and totally taken by the beautiful woman that Lili is. Jack is done with a quick roll in the hay. He is tired of people only wanting him for his money, is looks and what they think that he can do for their careers. He wants more, and he wants more with Lili.

I really connected with Lili. Growing up as a pudgy kid, I can relate to the teasing and name calling that Lili went though. As an adult, still not a size 10, she is comfortable with who she is, but at times, her childhood hurts still run through her mind. Lili has a hard time believing that someone as handsome, wonderful and funny as the famous Jack Kilroy could possible be interested in someone like her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, Smart and Sexy Hooooooooot. May 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Kate Meader's debut novel, "Feel the Heat," is smart, funny and sexy hooooot. I was literally smiling, chuckling or laughing out loud at some point on almost every page of this book. The hero is a rising star in the TV chef world and the heroine is the artsy, dutiful daughter of an old-world Italian Chicago Restaurateur. I loved how personal flaws drove these characters and gave them a sense of humanity and relatability. Meader has a deft mastery of subtly turning a phrase in such a way as to heighten both it's meaning and hilarity. I highlighted lines that made me laugh and I can tell you, my book is awash in yellow. I can't wait for the next installment in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars It gets hot in the kitchen, y'all June 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!

Shel: If you like Italian food..eating it, reading about it..imagining it...this may be a fantastic book for you. The food descriptions alone..gah..I think I gained about 15 lbs from just reading them. And while I could probably spend way too much time talking about the food, I should tell you a little about Lili and Jack. Court: The food is definitely a large part of the story! Lol. Jack is a chef, and Lili does help run her father's restaurant that Jack will be filming a show in.... and if history serves us correctly....a hot kitchen rendezvous....or not in poor Jack's case....made for some pretty hilarious shenanigans.

Shel: Lili is a free spirit who has had to tame that spirit to stay home and help out with the family restaurant and her mom recovery from cancer. She's pushed her own dreams away for so long that as the time comes for her to finally live those dreams, she hesitates. She has doubts, questions, and fears and is allowing those to control her decision making. In stark contrast, Jack, a hotshot, confident, fearless, up and coming chef ends up filming a show at Lili's restaurant. As you can imagine the mix of their personalities is interesting. They fight and bicker and are hilarious together. He wants to go balls to the wall with everything and she wants to work everything out in her head. Except sex..interestingly, they take on different roles when it comes to sex.

Court: I felt a kindred spirit in Lili in that special place in your mind that always tells you that you have to follow this certain path to other people's happiness...and wanted to be more like Jack and tell her to break out of that mold. That made for some of the best parts of the story for me...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, sexy romance June 28, 2014
By kgagnon
Format:Kindle Edition
'Feel the Heat' by Kate Meader is a fun, intelligent, and steamy read that I really enjoyed. Jack Kilroy is a hot British celebrity chef and Lili DeLuca is an aspiring photographer who manages her families Italian Restaurant. They are thrown together because Jack is challenging Lili's father to a cook-off in his Italian restaurant as part of Jack's new show. The sparks fly one night between Jack and Lili and their hot kiss is secretly filmed and posted on the web. It becomes an internet sensation causing Jacks rabid fans to post terrible things about Lili all over the web. Lili is a real size, sexy woman that is fighting body issues and can't understand why someone like Jack would be attracted to her. Jack is sick of being thought of as a meal ticket or a shallow celebrity. They both have their issues to work out and I like how the author addressed them and shows the growth of both characters. I also liked how the story took the time to build their friendship/relationship. My favorite part is the witty banter between Jack and Lili and also with the wonderful secondary characters. I am not much of a cook so most of the cooking references were lost on me but in the end it didn't detract from the story at all. This is a fun read and I am looking forward to reading more from Kate Meader.
