4.0 out of 5 stars good follow up
Being a fan of the first album High Expectations/Low Results one of the best electro space rock achievements of our time it's a little disappointing to see them take the digital edge, but it works beautiful with the overall feel of the album stand outs like: alarmed lights, it hurts me all the time,& feel.love.thinking of: really make the album. if your a fan of the first...

Loved 'high expectations/low results'. Bought this thinking it would be as good. It isn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly beautiful and creative, October 11, 2009
This review is from: Feel Love Thinking of (Dig) (Audio CD)
I have to say, this album is one of my most prized discoveries of this year. I just love the production and quality of the songs. Like M83's Saturdays=Youth, it's a gorgeous and non-ironic homage to 80's music, without seeming in any way dated. This album has been on heavy rotation for me for two weeks now.

It is a bit of new sound for them, but i absolutely love it. At first i only liked the the even numbered tracks but now i love every track except I Think I'll Start A Fire. I love this album, i have had this for a few weeks now and winamp says i have listened to this album over 100 times! great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars sophomore makeover, November 2, 2010
This review is from: Feel Love Thinking of (Dig) (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of High Expectations Low Results but don't expect that here; have an open mind and curb the knee jerk "Sophomore Slump Sell-out!" reaction to this new album if you are a previous fan. The dance angle of this record should not come as a surprise, it seems to be the popular drift these days and you could already hear it in Faunts. It doesn't really matter as long as it's done right and doesn't sound desperate to impress. I think this album pulls it off.

If you wanna hear the new angle "feel love thinking of" is the track you should listen to. If you want that signature Tug-At-Your-Heartstrings-Mellow-Sad sound of Faunts, then listen to "so far away".

Cautiously Well Recommended. I still love this band.

My interest in the Canadian band Faunts began last year. After finishing the XBox 360 game Mass Effect, a song from Faunts plays with the closing credits. That song, "M4 (Part II)," sounded like a modern mix of indie rock, 80's-influenced electro-pop, and some of The Cure's vintage material. It immediately prompted me to purchase the EP containing "M4 (Part II)," which turned out to be the best song by far on that short release. Feel. Love. Thinking. Of., the band's second full-length, is an eclictic collection of dreamy synth, saccharine vocals, and electronic melodies; a logical extension of the sound exhibited on the EP. The album structure is puzzling, however. Of its ten songs, the first four are mildly interesting but easily forgettable tunes, a little too indie/emo for my taste, and the last three similarly forgettable but are more melancholic and laid-back. It's in the middle three songs, "The Lights Are Always On," "Das Malefitz," and "I Think I'll Start A Fire," that have the heaviest impact, being reminiscent of the brilliance exhibited on "M4 (Part II)." If Faunts could capitalize on their strengths and minimize their songwriting weaknesses on their next release, the product would be much more balanced and reliable than this. This is a good album, but recommended only to help pass some time.
