Jennifer Holliday's 'Feel My Soul' Is A Great Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Feel My Soul (Audio CD)
In 1983, one of the greatest moments in music history occured. Tony Award-winning actress and singer, Jennifer Holliday, when into the studio and recorded her debut album, 'Feell My Soul.' The album is one of those rare ones where every song is enjoyable. It's an album full of strength, compassion, determination, and love. Featuring such classics as 'Just Let Me Wait,' 'I Am Ready Now,' and her chart-topping hit, 'I Am Love.' This album offers something for every kind of mood. Jennifer closes with a song written by Gospel Music Legend, Edwin Hawkins', 'This Day.' A song of prayer, thanksgiving, and praise. A must have for any real music lover.

This Solo Debut Is Finally Available Again,

This review is from: Feel My Soul (Audio CD)
I love this album, even if it has 80's slickness all around it. My absolute favorite track is "I Am Love," which was a fond memory and unheard until 1996, when the "Best Of" collection was released. This cd is remastered well. The producers of this album didn't know what to do with Jennifer, so the material varies from gossamer ballads to throw down dance anthems, all so well performed the whole thing seems surreal. Jennifer's second album "Say Yoy Love Me" still remains out of print but that album was a bit more even, Michael Jackson wrote the opening track and this aside, Jennifer was in a more gospel mood. The title track and Duke Ellington standard "Come Sunday" won Jennifer a Grammy and is featured on her "Best Of " album. With the budget priced release of this cd, I feel we won't be seeing this one for long, so snatch it up while you can and interesting to note, I've never seen this cd in a used record store so once purchased, no one is letting go.

A singer that is hard to categorize!,

This review is from: Feel My Soul (Audio CD)
After her smashing performance in Broadway's "Dreamgirls," there were many - myself included - that thought that the sky was the limit for Holliday. However, it appears that no one knew what to do with the singer. She was just too good for the mass audience. This album, produced by EWF's Maurice White, runs the gamut from torch songs to pop ditties to gospel-influenced R & B with some success. Featuring works from outstanding songwriters like David Foster and Nick Ashford & Valerie Simpson, the album seemed destined for greatness. Sadly, it did not perform as was expected. But, the powerhouse voice of Holliday still managed to transcend the poor sales and "Feel My Soul," even after all these years, is deserving a place in any collection of soulful divas. Playing time: 40:50
