Musical, wise, compelling, acute, honest, fun, gritty, inspiring, challenging, delicious... These are words that have been used by reviewers and fans alike to describe both Colleen Coadic and her music.
Colleen was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, to an eclectic musical home, where her artist mother sang, her bass player father jammed, her self-taught grandfather played accordion, and her grandmother, baking bread, sang in her native tongue - French.
Coadics prodigious talents spoke earliest via her voice, then ukulele, guitar, and bass guitar. Vocal prowess and harmonizing came easily. Song writing became a natural extension of sounding her inner landscape. Soothing imagery; a specialty.
At an early, wondrously naive age, Colleen hit the road touring.
No stranger to stages big and small, intimate and alive, with her band and solo, Colleen is comfortable and experienced playing every venue type and art medium thrown her way. To her, life is all about the music.
Along the way, she has amassed an impressive list of accomplishments as well, a testament to her commitment to music:
Independent release and distribution of five albums:
Say Anything (1994)
T o D a Y (1996)
Scream Of Consciousness (1998)
The Opposite Only Better (late 2001)
You Feel This Good (2004)
Both the sophistication of Colleen's writing and the technical production of the music and sound have reached a new level. You'll distinctly hear Colleen music that sometimes has a tinge of reggae, a toss of blues, a smidgen of middle-eastern spice, lots of rock (of course!), and even a faint pinch of flavourful country.
As you've come to know and count on from Colleen - the lyrics are poetry: artistic and communicative. An oowey, gooey deeply satisfying treat.
