Along time coming, but Toadies didn't let down,

This review is from: Feeler (Audio CD)
Been a diehard Toadies fan for a few years now and this album was along time coming. Diehards know the history surrounding Feeler and all the baggage that came with it. The demo versions were cool, but we wanted a legit Feeler album. A proper release because any Toadies song deserves to be released properly. We the diehards got what we wanted. After 13 years here it is. A little shorter than expected. A few tunes that would have been wanted didn't make it(Twitch, Littlefish among a handful of others) but beggars cannot be choosers and this album makes me proud to be a Toadies fan. 29 Minutes of down right awesome Toadies. Start to finish this album is a good quick listen. Definetly reccommend it. Is it their best? Probably not. Does it deserve 5 stars? I think so. Any Toadies record does.

Ive been a life long toadies fan, and have waited for this album since 1997! Well its finally hear, and it rocks oh so freaking hard!!I actually like it even more than their previous effort, entitled no deliverance, which is also a great album. there is not a single track that i didnt love. My only complaint about the album is that its only 29 minutes, yeah i know, thats why i gave it 4 stars and not 5, but its still totally worth it. Why the hell arent these guys still hugely famous, they are the best rock band around besides deftones.

It's a great record, and a long time coming for this album to be released. This album's story is pure proof that major record labels (Interscope) have no idea what the hell they are doing. Buy it, I'll give you a promotion at your job.

Hey record label guys circa 1997: City of Hate is a great single you idiots. Dead Boy is too. It's now 2010 and the record industry is all but dead, making its death rattle as we speak. They'll own the composition and the masters of that little ditty. That this record wasn't accepted by the dunderheads at Interscope Records is just one example of the many reasons why they, and their buds, will soon perish.

Saw them in denver and they ABSOLUTELY rocked dead boy boogie live. Believe it or not I still rock the original 14 song "album", as it were. Because with this release I am equally as delighted as I am dissapointed as to what they choose to include and not. It is exciting with some songs, like aww man they included "mine" and "suck magic", sweet! But not including, "twitch, clarksville or send you to heaven?" That's sad. No, "Tornado", though. Good choice. But at least in some way or another it's out. But should have been out from the start - F'ing record label.

The best song was not even put on here,

The best of all the Feeler demo songs was "Clarksville". In another stroke of genius, Vaden decided not to put that one on this album. WTF???? Kind of like not recording a longtime fan favorite, "Send You To Heaven".

I have been a Toadies & Burden Brothers fan for as long as I can remember. That being said I was super excited to get this album, thinking it was new material. However, when I looked a little deeper I saw that this was a previously unreleased effort that was being re-released by the band. To their credit, they didn't just re-master this music but actually re-recorded it. And, although it is an interesting effort with a lot of good music, I just don't think it stands up to their other records. Would I buy it again, yes, would I buy it before the other albums - no.

Feeler rocks - check it out.,

As you probably already know - Feeler was supposed to be released way back when as their Sophomore album. Yada Yada Yada, blah, blah, blah.... stupid Corporate Music Bigwhig said no. But, we were lucky enough for them to put out Hell Below/Stars Above. So, not a super huge loss there at that time. Although the turndown of Feeler may have caused strife because after HB/SA we were Toadieless (very, very sad).Flash forward to 2008 - reunion tours started up for the Toadies (yay!). Long time Toadie fans were blessed with catching shows at most major city's. Thank you for coming to Detroit! Release of No Deliverence hit the stores - me likey. They toured for this album and kept on hinting that they would be releasing Feeler. Completely intriguing - what will we get with this newly revamped Feeler? Well, you get: 1. "Trust Game" 2:58 2. "Waterfall" 3:51 3. "Dead Boy" 2:58 4. "City Of Hate" 4:04 5. "Mine" 2:19 6. "Suck Magic" 3:03 7. "ATF" 2:17 8. "Joey, Let's Go" 3:38 9. "Pink" 3:07 Suck Magic, starts off a little bluesy/countryish but gets all crazy from the middle on out - ya gotta love a song where VTL screams "SUCK!" at the end. Mine is great as well - the music sort of tip toes in and gets all swingy - love the lyrics (demanding in a sweet sexy way) simple but to the point. Waterfall is a bit heavier with the bass starting off and then you hear Vogeler's guitar getting louder and louder - awesome... VTL's voice is strong and strained (not sure how he does it, but it works so well). Pink is just so... sweet - makes me want to hug them all - if you are having a bad day, listen to this song and chant with VTL "Don't worry", it will make you feel better, I swear. Dead Boy is a bit in your face - so just take it. ATF is a cool tune with very little singing but that's a usual for the Toadies on all of their albums. Joey Let's Go is a bit all over the place, not a favorite of mine but definitely not a deal breaker. City Of Hate is the song that they have been pushing on this album the most, not quite sure why though - I'm on the fence about this song; although I like it a smidgen more after hearing them play it live. It's a short album and does not have all the songs on the proposed first Feeler album. The songs stay true to Toadies style - rockin' hard music with creative lyrics. YOU, yes you, the one reading this review... you definitely need to add this album to your collection. Vaden Todd Lewis puts all his heartfelt soul into singing (check em out live, you'll understand what I'm writing). Clark Vogeler cranks it out on the guitar like no other and Mark Reznicek bangs on the drums like there is no tomorrow. Doni Blair (bass) is newer to the band - lucky bastard. He's got the bass down to a science and fits in real well. I highly suggest picking up No Deliverence too. Buy them both NOW! |
