5.0 out of 5 stars Best Millie Jackson Album, November 6, 2002
By
Joseph Murphy (Chicago Illinios) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feelin' Bitchy (Audio CD)
I like this album because it's funny. I've always liked Millie Jackson period. To be honest, I think Millie Jackson is better than Diana Ross, Barabra Striestand or any other female singer you can think of.

I first bought this record in 1978 at the record shop. It had a lady dressed in make up licking her lips. I was used to seeing exotic women on album covers back in the late 70s, early 80s, and I thought it was just another music band album but I began to look at the album cover and fell in love with it. I was like "who is this lovely lady". When I saw her name "Millie Jackson" written in lipstick, I said to myself "I'ma get this album"

Every song on here is great. It's funny. It begans with "All the way lover", a song Millie sings about some lazy women who prefer soap operas over their men. Millie sings for like 6 or 7 minutes then she started talking about those women.

It ends with "Feeling like a Woman", a song about a man making her feel like she's loved, cared about, and this song is kinda like a slower version of Aretha Franklin's "You make me feel"

Millie, if you're reading this, I just want to say that I love your work and thank you for laying it down, and giving us the satisfaction us men would like to see and here.

All the female singers, yall cool. but chall cant touch Millie!!! (laughs)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray! Another great album finally available on CD!, June 16, 1999

I remember back in 1977 when this album was released and it quickly garnered cult status among African-Americans; it seems as though there was not a person I knew who did not have this album in their collection. Millie Jackson is one of the true "Old School" performers who relies on talent to get the story across -- even if she does pepper it up with four-letter words that would make a sailor blush!

That's what's so refreshing about Millie Jackson, her no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners attitude let's you know exactly where things stand. Sure, anyone can cuss, but Millie can sing as well, as evidenced by my all-time favorite cut by her, "If You're Not Back In Love By Monday" which shows Millie at her tough-vulnerable best. One of her best tough-talking songs is "All The Way Lover" where Millie disses trifling women in general, admonishing them to take care of business at home with their men before someone else takes care of it for them.

The Queen of Sass and Soul is also at her most tender on "Feelin' Like A Woman", letting the man in her life know just how wonderful and special he makes her feel. There's a steely edge to her voice on "The Angel In Your Arms", letting her lover know that she knows that he's been tippin' out and to not be surprised when (not if) she does too; a classic sauce-for-the-goose/gander situation song gets a sparkling polish by Millie. In this day and age of Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown, perhaps those two young ladies need to take a page from Ms. Jackson's opus and learn what it means to be blunt and still be a lady in the process. All in all, a great album to have in any collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars They Don't Make 'Em Like This Anymore, July 6, 2002
This review is from: Feelin' Bitchy (Audio CD)
I first heard this while I was in college back in the 80s. It sounded fresh back then and it still does today. Where is the soul in today's R&B? You can sample all you want, honey, but if the soul's not there to begin with...

5.0 out of 5 stars My Very First Introduction to Ms. Millie Jackson, June 29, 2006
By
Spree Playa (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Feelin' Bitchy (Audio CD)
This album is a lot of things. Yes, it is a concept album. But most importantly, it is the introduction into female sexual exploration (i.e. All The Way Lover). I have been listening to Millie Jackson (secretly) since I was sixteen and publicly since I was nineteen. This album helped me get through college from start to finish, from anger management to sheer frustration. Whenever I had a problem and needed to talk and vent, I just kick back, put the record on, and converse with my girl Millie J. I'm giving it 5 stars for not only being a definitive Millie Jackson classic, but because I have had to buy 3 of these albums because I keep wearing the CD's out! I wish music could go back to this.

Out of 5:
All The Way Lover 5/5 - This song is a mantra for all women.
Lovin Your Good Thing Away 4/5 - Great into into the next song.
Angel In Your Arms 5/5 - Listen to the lyrics yall. Classic.
The Medley of Side 2 - I'm going to give it 4/5 songs because I really felt the song Cheatin' Is could have been left out, and Feelin Like a Woman extended a bit more, but that is just me.

I'm still in love with Ms Jackson's subtle combination of a stunningly rich voice, a daringly rich lyric composition with a relevant soul instrumentation. "Feelin' Bitchy" is one of those properties you don't want even your best friend to mess around with. Y'all over there, feel free to revisit "Feelin' Bitchy" and the phare song "All the Way Lover". My advice though: Economize on your emotions to be able to tell the World about your "Feelin'". And don't say you were not warned...

In my opinion - Sincerely: Passionate, sexy, real and powerful delivery and performance. Millie Jackson is the greatest performer and "Diva" on earth. Her songs definitely show this. Millie Jackson is the greatest and best Singer, Musical writer, Musical arranger on earth, for real! No doubt! She needs a Website for more easy access to her and her many talents. Millie Jackson needs to be seen on TV. For real! Millie is the most versatile and prolific Writer, Singer and Performer on earth.

Millie Jackson should definitely be performing on Vh1 "Divas Live"/"Divas Duets" this year and every year with all these powerful hits. The whole world needs to hear and feel these songs.
Every song is "The Best". All favorites, especially "Angel In Your Arms", "Cheatin' Is" and "If You're Not Back In Love By Monday"

I was sneaking an listening to Millie Jackson as a child... I have the album and when I finally got it on CD I was finished.
this is one of her best... Mille is underated as singer due to her sometimes over expressive lyrics but she can blow with the rest of them..
