5.0 out of 5 stars Little book, concise, helpful
*****
This is a small, short book. In such a format, it is impossible to cover all of the basics and fundamentals of the golf culture to help a woman feel comfortable her first time on the golf course. That said, this book is a good attempt. If you only have a couple of hours to prepare, and you want to feel as comfortable as possible, I would recommend this book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
I purchased this book at the same time as Golfing for Dummies, and found it to be a waste of my money. Golfing for Dummies covers the same topics, but more in depth. To me, this book didn't provide much real info, it glossed over most topics to quickly, which make sense as it's a very small book. I'd save your money, and just go for a more complete guide, it's worth it.

This is a small, short book. In such a format, it is impossible to cover all of the basics and fundamentals of the golf culture to help a woman feel comfortable her first time on the golf course. That said, this book is a good attempt. If you only have a couple of hours to prepare, and you want to feel as comfortable as possible, I would recommend this book to very new women golfers. It includes a little bit of everything: terminology, culture, etiquette, rules, logistics and practicalities, how to dress, lingo, etc. It also includes some very helpful things that I personally liked: an actual scorecard with the different parts explained, a picture of the different irons, and a chart of hints for "picking up the pace" on the course. It is only 69 pages long so there is only so much that fits, but if you're busy, and you need a CRASH course to get ready, this is your book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Guide to Recruit New Female Golfers, December 20, 2005
By
This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
This is a great guide to introduce new female golfers to the sport, especially the "40 something" group who often feel intimidated by the protocol and mystique associated with the game. The book's brevity and practical information makes it an easy read for women who are juggling careers, families and other commitments. Having organized numerous casual golf outings during the past several years, I am all to familiar with the discomfort that new and even experienced female golfers share concerning their deportment and skill level on the course. Ann Kelly's guide helps to demystify a game that serves as both a great social and recreational outlet for women. I continue to recommend this book to all of my female friends who are considering taking up the game of golf or who are already hooked on the sport.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the Beginner Golfer, August 31, 2005

I bought this for the title as was curious about the book. It is a list of things a beginner golfer will need to know if she wants to take up the game of golf. I was surprised at how thorough it was as it covered everything from golf course holes and what they looked like, bag, balls, clubs, clothes, and accessories.

You will find drawings on every page to show just what the author was talking about even a layout of a golf hole. For any new golfer I would suggest buying this book or for some husband or boyfriend to buy this for her. I have played golf for over 50 years but as the title says feeling naked on the first tee, can hit you during tournament play. I can feel how a new golfer would feel when she goes out to play for the first time.

The book is well written in easy to understand wording. The drawings are well done and even includes at the end a place to record your progress. Nice little sized book that you could take with you in your golf bag for easy reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book helps to make golf fun!, January 21, 2000

This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
Ann Kelly writes a fun little book that focuses on everything that the new golfer needs to know - what to wear, what to bring, which club to use, rules and tons of useful comments. She also does a great job of reminding the reader that golf is fun and that you are out on the course to enjoy yourself in a beautiful location. I'm sure that there are lots of tips in here for any golfer. And I like the fact that she doesn't take the game too seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling Naked on the First Tee, November 22, 2001

This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
Feeling Naked on the First Tee is one of the best books for women golfers. The new golfer finds out how to start and not to feel foolish. The experienced golfer can brush up. There are a lot of traditions and unwritten rules in golf, Ms. Kelly addresses these and helps the new golfer start off on the right foot. Many of my male golfing friends are sneaking a peek - because there is something benifical for all golfers. I plan to purchase this book for all the women golfers on my Christmas list. There is something for everyone. Well written and it fits in a purse or brief case.

A definate keeper!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Let The Color Fool You!, November 10, 2001

This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
Extremely well written and openly honest, Ann Kelly's book is a "must" for women (and men) of all ages, experiencing the world of golf for the first time (or first twenty-five times)! We all start somewhere in this game and whether a public course or private - the rules and etiquette are the same. Ann describes beautifully the essential "need to know" strategies and advice required to begin the game with ease and self -confidence. This book has helped many individuals immensely, including myself, in beginning a game we are now hooked on and hope to enjoy for a lifetime! Well done Ms. Kelly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Feeling A Lot Less Naked on the First Tee, November 26, 2001
By
This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
When my husband gave me a package of golf lessons for Christmas last year I have to admit I was a bit nervous. However, before I even picked up a club for the first time, I read Ann Kelly's book from cover to cover, and it really helped to take the mystery and stress out of the game. It is straightforward, readable and fun. It is an invaluable resource, and I have shared it with many of my new golf friends, both male and female. We all agree it is an essential tool for all new golfers. Well done, Ms. Kelly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview!, February 5, 2004
By
This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
As someone who is very new to the game I found this cute little book a great overview of the rules and etiquette. This little book is handy for slipping inside my golf bag and also a quick read for someone who doesn't have time to read 500 pages. As a professional women who is expected to join colleagues on the course this book certainly made me feel more comfortable. Don't expect this book to teach you how to swing or hit the ball - take lessons for that - but it will give you a good start before heading to the course ! (PS - just as good for men as for women)

5.0 out of 5 stars Naked on the First Tee, August 25, 2003

This review is from: Feeling Naked on the First Tee: An Essential Guide for New Women Golfers (Paperback)
I have the pleasure of organizing and escorting Ladies Golf groups. Last year, Ann Kelly accompanied us as our "celebrity best-selling authour". As a gift to all our participants we gave out a copy of "Naked on The First Tee". We all found the handy pocket size to be convenient, as we frequently referred to it throughout our long weekend. The book is ideal for anyone who wants to know the rules and etiquette of golf in a traditionally male-dominated sport. With the knowledge gleaned from this book, you can golf with seasoned golfers - even if your score is higher. You can also learn to talk the lingo and feel comfortable, as you become a confident golfer or just a networker in the golf circles. I would highly recommend this book for any beginner golfer who wants to learn the basics and understand all the fundamentals.
