Ledisi does it AGAIN...Just GO GET this CD!,

This review is from: Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue: The Jazz Singer Limited Edition (Audio CD)
First of all, I bought "Soulsinger" late last year, and was awestruck by what I heard. Then, last October, I seized the opportunity to experience Ledisi, Sun(dra), and the band, live and in-person, here in Chicago. And, as I said in a previous posting, that experience was amazing! At that point, I was SOLD on Ledisi, et. al.!On this "sophomore" release - "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue" - Ledisi, Sun(dra) and Anibade (the band)really prove to ME that they are destined to be STARS! Personally, I have a particular fondness for straight-up jazz (and not that "smooth jazz" stuff that's being force-fed to the public on commercial radio...), as well as anyone (male or female)who can "sing jazz" well, too, as vocalists. Well, on this release, Ledisi showed ME that she IS a real jazz singer, and MORE! In my opinion, on "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue", Ledisi, et. al., effectively interpret (and breathe new life into...)such classic jazz standards as "Round Midnight", "Straight No Chaser", "In a Sentimental Mood", and "Autumn Leaves" (with an alternative take of this song on the "hidden cut" on this CD...). And, then, there are the "killer" original interpretations ("Sugar/Brown Sugar"-a big favorite of mine...) and/or new tunes, i.e., "Meeting Marcus on A Thursday" and the title cut (two other big favorites of mine, from this release...)! Let me tell y'all: I haven't found ANY weak cuts on this release. To me, it's ALL good, and one can see progression with regards to Ledisi and her musical talents, as well as her band, in recordings on this second CD. I look forward to the next release from Ledisi this year - a live album (or so I hear) - as well as my next opportunity to see her, Sun, and the band, here in Chicago <g> Ledisi is ALL that, and MORE, believe me! Plus, she, Sun, and Anibade (the band) are best experienced LIVE. If they come to YOUR town, I suggest that you make it your business to BE THERE, if you can... Later...

There are no words to describe.....the tour de force,
This review is from: Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue: The Jazz Singer Limited Edition (Audio CD)
I am a Ledisi addict. I proudly own "Soul Singer" and I missed the group when they were in New York City because of the WTC tragedy. Let me say, there are no adjectives that can descibe "Ledisi". You really have to see a performance, buy the cd's and experience them for yourself. I wrote a reveiw for the "Soul Singer" and I am still as excited about "Soul Singer" as am I about "Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue". I honestly can not pick a favorite song but I am heavily leaning on number 7 with its' latin/soul/jazz groove in collaboration with Shelia E. daddy in his own right. But then ya gotta luv "Brown Sugar", "Straight No Chaser" which would make Ella proud", "In a Sentimental Mood", "If You Go", "Autumn Leaves" of course "Land of Free". I plead with "Ledisi" do not go commercial. I know the suits are going to make you compromise and the "Tour de Force" will loose its' magic. After the suits get involved the new album title will be "Things Fall Apart". I have great respect and admiration for ya' stay strong, creative and true to heart. From your number one fan!

I'm a big fan of her last release "Soulsinger". Played it often enough to know all the words to the best tracks. This release takes you into the relm of a jazz singer. Ledisi proved her jazz/vocal talents on her last release and this one gives you the full picture of her jazz roots. She brought along a great band to back up her beautiful voice and this one really takes you into the jazz club scene. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in one of your favorite jazz club and her voice controls the vibe in the entire place........yeah, it's that nice! You've got to be a fan of real jazz to really appriciate what this CD offers. Ledisi stands out from the other soul artist to arrive in this game. Not as soulful as the last but the soul is replaced with pure jazz vocal bliss........Ledisi, babygirl...... I'm pleased oNe

Ledisi is FIRE. This CD is so awesome. Too bad its one of the hardest CD's to find ANYWHERE!!!! So if you don't have it already. I truly feel bad for you. This is an ULTIMATE Jazz Album. Ledisi's vocals differ from anyone's out there. Some of the Major Gems on this CD are Round Midnight, If you go, In a Sentimental Mood, Autumn Leaves, Brown Sugar. This CD differ's greatly from Soulsinger and is MUCH MUCH better. If you are into Jazz and you DON'T have this album, your not as into it as you think!

My love for talented artists and great music is strongly recipricated on this disc.Ms Ledisi loves singing to me as much as I love to hear her sing.I just love this type of recording, one that relies on strong performances and production values more than "studio magic".I say with complete confidence that Ms Ledisi could deliver any of the songs on this disc in a live setting as well as,or better than, she does on this disc. What an abundance of talent.I only discovered this talented Lady after reading the reviews and recommendations here on Amazon[.com],thanks again people for the great find. This disc is the strongest of the jazz flavored neo-soul releases of recent times. The writing, production, arrangements and performances are all first rate.I look forward to more great music from Ledisi and offer my strongest recommendation to purchase this music. The mastering and recording quality on this disc is as good as I have ever heard from a non-Audiophile record label. The soundstage is wide and deep.Close your eyes and imagine a stage on which Ledisi and her band are playing and you can easliy place each instrument in it's proper place on that stage.Imaging is clear and precise. You can easily tell what instruments are being played and there is no doubt that each artist performing on this disc is highly skilled. All vocals are perfectly mastered and no emphasis has been placed on lead or backround. This is an excellent studio recording and the lack of any "sweetening" is great for fans of live performances.

It simply makes no sense! Ledisi has done it again. Her debut "Soulsinger" was amazing and this one is coming at you fully loaded. Her voice is in incerdible shape and the song selection is perfect. I have been waiting for this one and I was not disappointed. Track for track, Ledisi immerses her soul and takes you on a joyous musical journey. "Autumn Leaves" is simply classic and her delivery is sheer magic. I thought I was gonna explode on that one. "Sugar Brown Sugar", "Feeling Orange But Sometimes Blue", "Round Midnight" and "Straight No Chaser" are all brilliant. There is no song on this CD that is lacking. The musicianship is excellent and all the vocals are shining. Don't miss out on this one. Jazzy R&B at it's best!!!

Investing in a Ledisi CD is like investing in a good stock!!,

I never do reviews, but I'm making an exception for this artist! Purchased SoulSinger last year, and was blown away. Recently purchased "Feeling Orange..." without hearing one track prior--something I NEVER do. Not only did this CD not disappoint...it far exceeded my expectations!! The range of jazz utilized on this album left me speechless..nothing short of masterful!!A must have if you are a jazz enthusiast. But do "Feeling Orange.." some justice...first BUY IT; then get set in your favorite place, fix a cup of your favorite java, or glass of your favorite drink; then hit "play" and get lost in this CD. Ledisi--->the biggest and freshest voice in jazz-period. Whatever your formula is--don't change it!!!

After I bought her 2 albums, she came to Washington DC and performed in Blues Alley. That was a hot night !! She really melt me !!
Her voice is penetrating, soothing yet energetic. Soulful and Jazzy style sometimes with R&B moves. Good for every moment in a day. You will not regrate if you buy this album !!

I first heard LEDISI on WHUR 96.3 here in DC, but I had no clue who she was and then my friend, who was in CALI, called and said I sent you something. I received a package that same day and it was the SoulSinger album. Needless to say from that day forth I was and still am HOOKED!!!!!!!!! Then I went to my 1st LEDISI performance 10/4/01 (her 1st in DC), I felt as if this was a totally new spiritual feeling :0)!!!!!!! I told everyone about this phenom. I want her to be huge internationally because she deserves it but I pray the whatever label decides to get smart enough to sign her does not try to taint her or her sound.
