Great book but age level wrong.,

This review is from: Feeling Safe, Feeling Strong: How to Avoid Sexual Abuse and What to Do If It Happens to You (Library Binding)
As a children's librarian, who was a social worker for 20 years, I highly recommend this book, but not for the ages given by Amazon.com. It should read GRADE 4-8 (age 10-14). It is definitely NOT a book for age 4-8. Each chapter starts with a story of a child encountering a difficult situation (kissing unpleasant relatives, being lured into posing for child pornography, exhibitionists, incest by a father, obscene phone calls, and attempted rape). In each story, the child is supported and helped to deal with the situation. Facts are then given to help young readers understand how to avoid dangers themselves. In spite of the scary nature of the topic, the book is straightforward and positive, about girls and boys finding ways to act with strength to stay safe.

This book is a must!,
This review is from: Feeling Safe, Feeling Strong: How to Avoid Sexual Abuse and What to Do If It Happens to You (Library Binding)
This book is a must! Not only is it an important part in a school or public library, for educational purposes. It also is downright hilarious! I mean these scenes or "stories" that the children are in are just plain graphic, and often times awkwardly funny. There is nothing funny about incest or pornography, but the way this book shines a light on the matter is what is truly comical. I give this book 5 stars! This book was especially funny to my 8th grade math class. I read several "stories" and showed pictures on the overhead projector! The class was erupting in laughter. One boy was actually laughing so hard he was crying! I recommend this book to anyone who would like more info on sexual abuse, or anyone who just wants to laugh hard! 5 stars!
