5.0 out of 5 stars The Feeling is Back: Back to his roots
I discovered Chuck Mangione in 1974, my freshman year at C.U. He was the darling of a local jazz station, long since vanished from the airwaves. I saw Chuck and his quartet at the legendary Tulage's on The Hill, in Boulder. I was close enough to touch the band and was blown away. 3.0 out of 5 stars The Feelings Not Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The feeling is not back with this cd. It's rather a new feeling. It's obvious Chuck only did this album to showcase his flugelhorn playing, otherwise there would be more drums and guitars. This is a smoother soulful album, and is nice to listen to. But when I'm really in the mood for listening to music, I need a loud energetic album to fufill my needs! If you like mello...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Feeling is Back: Back to his roots, June 16, 1999

I discovered Chuck Mangione in 1974, my freshman year at C.U. He was the darling of a local jazz station, long since vanished from the airwaves. I saw Chuck and his quartet at the legendary Tulage's on The Hill, in Boulder. I was close enough to touch the band and was blown away. The music was direct, the melodies flowed easily, and musicianship was second to none.

I followed Chuck through college. The next time I saw him was with the full orchestra and Ester Saterfield at C.U.'s Mackey auditorium. The music was still great - Belavia had just been released, but it was more commercial. Chuck had been discovered by the masses, and the music seemed to be written more for the masses than for himself, and, while great, was strained.

The Feeling is Back will probably disappoint those who only knew Chuck once he caught on with the "smooth jazz" format stations, but it will thrill those who loved Chuck's early work. No orchestra, a very tight group, and a lyric command of the flugel horn that demonstrates Chuck's technique has only improved with age.

The new material, too, is top flight, especially Chuck's tunes, such as Once Upon a Love Time. Effortless, beautiful, naturally flowing melody performed with unparalleled musicianship.

Given the commercial direction Chuck's music took after Chase the Clouds Away, I thought I was taking a flier on buying this disc. What I found is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. The Feeling is Back . . . way back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chuck Mangione-Ahead Of Mainstream, April 30, 1999

The first time I listened to this C.D. I had too think twice if this was really Chuck Mangione. But as the C.D. went on I knew it was Chuck. This C.D. truly show's Chuck's ability to stay ahead of mainstream jazz, and to create a new kind of jazz-MANGIONE JAZZ. Any Jazz fan should own The Feelings Back by Chuck Mangione

Magnificent Mangione! Thank you Chesky Records for a fresh, hot helping of The the Magic of Chuck Mangione. Listening to Chuck again was very soothing and calming. (A very enjoyable mix of Smooth Jazz with Tango, Samba, and Brazilian Flavors) (I had a rough day at work and this was the perfect CD to listen to so I could forget all my troubles) Hearing the Magic of Mangione again was like having a reunion with a life-long friend whom I have not seen for a few years, and have missed. Thank you Chuck for sharing your Magic with us once again!! Also Thank you Chesky Records for allowing this Reunion to take place!!

The feeling IS back! What an outstanding album! It was well worth the wait since The Hat's Back came out in 1994. A refreshing new sound as well as some new versions of Consuelo's Love Theme, Aldovio, and Once Upon a Love Time. If you are a Chuck Mangione fan this is a must have for your collection!

This is a smoother soulful album, and is nice to listen to. But when I'm really in the mood for listening to music, I need a loud energetic album to fufill my needs! If you like mello latin jazz, then this is the album for you. If you like the old Chuck Mangione, then this album is not for you.
There are some highlights of this album, like the opener. And there are some cool things about this cd, like the appearence of old time buddy, Gerry Niewood, but for overall listening enjoyement, this was a bust!!!!!!!!

The feeling most definitely is back! Although this CD has a different feeling than many of the older works, the masterful Mangione technique and signature style is all there. It is expressive and mellow. It's a joy! I'm so glad he is sharing more of his music with us again! Kathie Quick cquick2121@aol.com

I had the pleasure of first hearing this music live. The day after the concert I purchased the CD. It is very mellow and beautiful music.

This music is the only thing you will need at the end of a tense day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chuck Lost the Evening of Magic Feeling :(, June 17, 1999
By A Customer

This CD was very disappointing and belongs in the elevator. Chuck, stop kidding yourself, release your double-CD, Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl album. You should re-unite with James Bradley Jr, Charles Meeks, and Chris Vadol and release your feelings in an upbeat "Children of Sanchez" type album. I am hoping that he doesn't play this crap during his upcoming concert in Tarrytown, NY. BELLAVIA!

If you like Chuck Mangiones style and like how he writes all of his own songs, then you wont like this album. His new album Sucks! All of the songs are contemporary, almost none of the songs are his, and no one from his origional band is in this album, its all a bunch of loosers. I recomend you keep your money and dont buy this Album, its a big disapointment.
