Not normal feelings,
By
This review is from: The Feelings Book (Board book)
I was hoping for a book that covered normal feelings like happy, sad, proud, etc. Instead this book is about off beat feelings like "I feel like camping with my dog." I am sure this is an appealing story for little children with all of the bright colors and pictures. However, if you are looking for legitamate feelings this is not the book.

Not About Emotions,
This review is from: The Feelings Book (Board book)
The illustrations in this book are fun, but if you are looking for a book to teach your kid about emotions, this is not the book for you. There are a few emotions included (scared, brave, cranky, lonely, and silly), but most of the "feelings" are more about wanting to do certain activities. These include things like "Sometimes I feel like eating pizza for breakfast." and "Sometimes I feel like kissing a sea lion." It's cute, but it's not what I expected from a book called "The Feelings Book."
If you are looking for a book to teach your baby/toddler about emotions, I highly recommend the Playschool book "Baby Faces" (sorry it is not currently available on Amazon, so I can't include a link, but the ISBN is 0525455450, if you search for that, it will come up, and there may be used copies available). For toddlers and young children I recommend "Big Feelings" (available through the Talaris Institute, not Amazon) as well as the series by Marcia Leonard including "I Feel Sad," "I Feel Scared," "I Feel Angry," and "I Feel Happy" (again, can't post a link, but if you search for the author + title, they come up). The Talaris Institute also has a board book of baby emotions, but I haven't seen it and can't recommend it.

We love this book!,

We bought this a few years ago for my son, who is now 5yrs old. He always loved it. I am sure the bold bright colors and whimsical illustrations have everything to do with that, but the messages the book sends are outstanding, in my opinion. Now, we still occasionally read this book with our son, but our 3 yr old daughter also loves this book and can even recite parts of it!

My son really enjoys when I read this book to him. He has learned to act out the feelings like "scared", "happy", "crying" and "cranky"... we both laugh together everytime we go through this exercise when we read the book. It has also helped me control his toddler tantrum - when he starts being cranky, I simply remind him of the book and tell him to act out the other "feelings" - and he totally forgets why he was cranky! Thanks, Todd Parr! I would definitely recommend this book to parents of other toddlers.

Worth buying,
This review is from: The Feelings Book (Board book)
What a great addition to our library. The pictures and captions continue to grasp the attention of our one year old. Because the book covers a wide variety of feelings, we're sure to get good use out of it as our baby gets older and can actually comprehend the concepts. Certainly worth buying!

Good book for pre-schoolers. My grandsons enjoyed figuring out the feelings of the characters by looking at the expressions on their faces before I told them what that feeling was. They also name things that would make them feel the same way. Then they imitate that face.

We are huge Todd Parr fans. This book is one of our very favorites. I especially appreciate the message that no feelings are bad,and that there are so many ways to express them!

Cute but could be much better!,

This book would be so much better if it showed the various true human feelings, not feeling like "standing on my head." I wish I could find a fun book that teaches little ones about all the different feelings we have. I like this book, but it would be better if it showed all the different facial expressions and true feelings...

My toddler and I love reading this book together. I especially love the "reading under the covers" feeling and he especially loves the "screaming" feeling. It's really great for a toddler who is learning how to express himself. We will take this book out and he usually picks one page (depending on his feeling at the moment) and we'll maybe read that pg a couple times and copy whatever the character is doing on that page. Awesome way for mommy and toddler to express our feelings together!
