"Feelings" is worth your attention,
By
This review is from: Feelings (Audio CD)
this takes a few listens to get accustomed to. but once you get settled, it's a nice ride. tropicalia, electronica, folktronica(?) alot of unique influence and it could have been a giant mess. but david pulls it together to form a cohesive album whose results are touching, and sometimes humorous. my favorite song would no doubt be "A Soft Seduction." great lyrics to that one. the cover and design concept is also quite great. my only complaint is that it could have been alot more streamlined and better if it were about 3-4 songs less. but all the songs are nice and it would have been hard to choose the ones to leave off. good go, then!

So worn out I had to get a new one,

I have 100's of CD's and this is the only CD I carry in my briefcase at all times. "Dance on Vaseline" is my favourite track and is so pleasureable (that voice, hypnotic/sexual!). For a relatively recent work this has a great variation in styles tying the David Byrne of old and the Brazilian new together with amazing synergy. This CD is so exceptional that I have worn it out and had to get a new one. The music is gorgeous and thoughtful and the lyrics are powerful. Once again David Byrne proves himself to be my favourite artist, an artist who has enchanted me since 1983 when I was first introduced to the music of Talking Heads. If you believe you are an intelligent listener, take a punt, you won't be disappointed.

This CD doesn't work that well for me. Many of the song seem to drone a bit. I think I like vocals that are a little more musical. That said, I still have played this CD multiple times. I guess maybe I like it a little better than I'm admitting. :>)

I love this CD. I can't stop listening to it. Especially beloved are "Finite=Alright" and "Miss America", but all the songs are excellent. As I listen to the album again and again, I am growing more and more fond of the other songs, which perhaps aren't as catchy right off the bat.I bought this CD not long after asking myself one day, "Why is there no good new music anymore?" Now I know that there is great new music out there, you just have to go hunting for it. Buy this CD! It's wonderful. It's fuzzy-freaky. And the CD case color-codes the mood of each song. Brilliant!

Innovative, fresh and somehow light-as-a-feather, David Byrne's Feelings proved - to me - his most satisfying solo effort so far. The disc effortlessly combines touches of techno, Latin, country, and even goth into a cohesive listening experience. All this and clever lyrics too. Dance on Vaseline is the track that really stands out. Byrne's best stuff has always been dark (Swamp) and on this one he even manages to sound like Roger Waters. It's also good to see the Devo guys recording again. The disc as a whole, leaves a smile on my face.

David Byrne consistently produces music that is remarkable in feeling, style and quality. This album is no exception. He is not afraid to comment on anything. I bought FEELINGS for one song, but now, find myself humming the others, even when the album is not playing. David Byrne's music is always different and exciting. That is why I liked this album so much. While others may try to duplicate music styles, Byrne always reinvents and experiments with new ideas. I am never bored by this or any other of his works. Give it a try.

Feelings,

Feelings is an experimental rock/pop album by the former Talking Heads singer and is an alright release. Some of the tracks are quite witty like Miss America, Finite=Alright and Burnt By The Sun. The problem is that album is quite uneven and some other tracks are not nearly as good. The booklet has no lyrics, a design that looks like photos of dolls in different poses but for each track we get a list of whom plays what. 3/5.

Baically as the title says, each song will represent a feeling, from calm and tranquil, to angry and agressive. Wicked Little doll is just begging to be covered by a industrial or hard rock/metal band... It's be a sure hit.. Good album to take mushrooms and listen to front to back... A good time for all.

¿Did David get his melting-pop musical goal?,

Byrne have spendt a lot of time looking for a music that melt his rocker heritage and his increasing contacts into the Latin's soul. Since Rei Momo, when Byrne was joint with stars like Celia Cruz, Willy Colón and Johnny Pachecho, he tried to find a point wich avoid the coexistence of all those things he was discovering. Now, almost ten years later, this oustrageous musician seems to be confortable in a sonic place that he and his fans like. I'm a hispanic and I appreciate that he had coming here -to our world- to mix his music with our sounds and build something that works for everyone. Thanks!

Fuzzy freaky FUNk,

This is my favourite David Byrne solo effort since Rei Momo as of mid 2004. (Only because it is hard to compare Rei Momo with its core Latin sound to this eclectic mix.) Fuzzy Freaky never ceases to amaze me.
Alcohol no need to fear, rest in these fuzzy arms. (Amnesia) These are the limits to our experience, it's scarry but its alright. |
