About the Painter on CD.....,
By
This review is from: Feelings (Audio CD)
I am also a long time fan of Paul Anka and collected his albums from the 70's on..But as you know, all LPs. I actually went to Paul Anka's web site and requested the Painter on CD from them. A few months later, they had it available on CD! You can purchase it from the site directly. I have since learned that you can always ask! Can't hurt. I got mine! LOL! and I am very pleased!

Anka at his best!!,

Although it would be unfair on my part to give a general review and rating to the entire Cd (I have not heard the "Feelings" album), the album "Anka" is one of my personal favorites. Hardly heard of and availible in only select stores around the globe (this is the only copy I have been able to trace so far!!), "Anka" is a nostalgic trip back to the 70's sound- that pill for all dance music lovers. Simple, uncomplicated Paul Anka is what is offered- and for some, thats all that matters. Paul Anka fans- reach out and grab this one of the racks!!

Well its about time. I recently purchased an mp3 player and all his music is going on it. A few days ago I ordered this cd because it has all the songs I love and miss from Paul. I already have the lps. Having the cd now saves me from buying a turn-table to with my pc.

I was an avid Paul Anka fan in the 70's, but some where in the transition from LPs to cassettes to CDs and finally MP3, I fell out of touch with his music. Then 3 months ago, I heard "Love's a Lonely Song" on the radio and that brought back a whole lot of memories flooding back ...
I drove home quickly and immediately tried to locate old-time favorites such as "Bring the Wine", "Papa", "Love's a Lonely Song" etc on iTunes and other music web-sites. Even checked out Paul Anka's own web site - no mention of these songs anywhere !! Browsing Amazon a few days later, I stumbled upon this CD - could not contain my excitement at finding, not one, not two, but 5-6 favorite songs from decades ago. His inimitable style of starting soft tones in the songs above, building up the emotions, and then letting it rip at the top of his voice towards the end - awesome. A gem for every Paul Anka fan, and definitely worth trying for those who have not heard of him at all. And don't bother with iTunes - this album and most of its songs are still not available there.

For 70s Romantic Pop fanatics: If you liked Bread, Firefall, Paul Davies, Leo Sayer, Chicago, Barry Manilow, Eric Carmen and Elton John love songs, and Poco's 'Crazy Love'... You will love this CD.
Hits: In addition to the classics 'You're Having My Baby' and 'One Man Woman' sung with Odia Coates, you'll get a marvelous (and almost forgotten on Classic Rock FM radio programs) superhit: 'Love Is A Lonely Song'. A very good CD to play on your shared time with your beloved one... The 4-star rating, is 'cause the CD sound quality is low to poor...

This is a collection of some of the best songs of Paul Anka from the 70's, some of them are very hard to find , songs like "How can anything.. " or "Bring the wine".
Awesome collection of beautiful songs from one of the best composers/artists/singers ever. Like many critics said about him : "He's the man" !

I used to own the "Anka" LP (1974) and it is one of my favorite 70's album. The only reason I give this CD 3 stars instead of 5 is that the song "Let Me Get To Know You" is different from the 1974 LP, which is my second favorite song on the LP right after "Papa". Hopefully one day it will be released on CD format.

back to the 70's,

Yup, as the reviewer below mentioned, Paul Anka's music will take you back to the soft days of the 70's. This isn't really the type of music I like to listen to very often, but sometimes it's okay.
Anyway, I heard the Feelings album tonight for the first time (my first experience with this guy's music) and although the songwriting is pretty strong, the overall sound is stuck in the 70's. That's good, I guess, sometimes, and I'd say Paul Anka's music reminds me of some of Neil Diamond's work. When I heard Feelings tonight, what I heard was a big sound, almost orchestral, mixed in with short piano tunes. I guess this is something to dance to, but I didn't feel like dancing to it (and I find dancing fun, at least, when I'm by myself!) Some pretty strong singing in places too. I'm surprised there aren't more Anka reviews on amazon to be honest, since I thought the guy was really popular at one time. I guess that's it, he was popular at one time, but not so much these days. Who knows, I could be wrong. |
