Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Carter (Alpha Bugs; Love Bugs) adds to his insect oeuvre with this collection of 12 textured specimens. The body of a "glittery bug" is made from a lame-like material; tightly pleated cloth forms the back of a "wrinkly bug"; heart-shaped "velvety bugs" display that plush fabric; etc. Though the tactile surfaces here provide interest (and even the occasional sound effect, as in the candy-wrapper-like paper for "crinkly bugs"), the book's simple format prevents Carter from showing the full range of his antic sensibilities. These bug-eyed beings seem less idiosyncratic than their counterparts in previous books, and the dynamism of paper engineering will be missed. All ages.

Review

Use this touch-and-feel book to teach kids about textures in this fine title which joins other of his 'bug books'. A fun collection of bugs the very young will appreciate. -- Midwest Book Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for toddler sensory development...but, January 17, 2001

This review is from: Feely Bugs: To Touch and Feel Book (Bugs in a Box Books) (Hardcover)
This book has many interesting textures and colorful pictures. Kids love it...but, so you know, the drawbacks are: 1. kids will yank out the feathers on the feathery bug page 2. if you have a "busy" child they will likely tear the pages. The pages have gaping areas where the textures come through; great for little fingers to YANK! 3. There is NO story line at all...just a one word adjective + the word "bug" on every page BUT, my son loves it...it just won't last for the nect child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, December 14, 2001

This review is from: Feely Bugs: To Touch and Feel Book (Bugs in a Box Books) (Hardcover)
This book is about touching and feeling and textures. What a great idea! My son (age 2) still loves this book and now he loves sharing it with his little sister (9 months). He helps her feel the sticky bugs and tells her 'soft' on the velvety bugs. What a simple idea that makes for a lot of fun.

I like books that you can build on. I like the fact that we talk about how my new Christmas dress feels like his velvety bug or the lace on my daughters collar is the same as the lace in the book only a different color.

Great.

I began taking care of a little boy when he was just over a year old and from the first day when he pulled this book out, until almost 2 years later, it's STILL his all-time favorite book! He absolutely loves to feel all of the different textures and blow on the feathers! This book is always his first choice, even though we've probably read it at least 100 times. He still loves it and yes, especially the CRINKLY BUG!! Coming in second are the sticky bugs! I would recommend it to all parents and nannies!
