Editorial Reviews

J.R. "Dick" Rossi, President, Flying Tigers Association

The finest telling of the Flying Tigers' story...an accurate and compelling account.

Product Description

During the summer of 1941, 300 young American men and women secretly trained in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Within weeks of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the daring exploits of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) captured the imagination of the world. The Chinese called them Fei Hu, for the shark's teeth painted on their planes. The world knew them as the legendary Flying Tigers.

Through the use of rare film footage Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers tells the story of a small group of men and women who fought against overwhelming odds and lifted the spirits of both the American and Chinese people during the darkest days of World War Two.

Fei Hu - The Story of the Flying Tigers was broadcast on PBS as a one-hour film on February 22, 1999. It was selected to be part of PBS's programming initiative, History's Best on PBS, which highlights the best history programming that PBS has to offer. Now the 90-minute Director's Cut of Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers is available for sale on videocassette.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one to see!, October 20, 1999
This review is from: Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Really the best video ever made about the American Volunteer Group, rich in "home movies" that I at least had never seen before, with some telling interviews (Red Foster Hanks, who was briefly married to AVG pilot John Petach, was especially good), and for the first time interviews with a Japanese pilot and two New Zealanders who fought against and alongside the Flying Tigers. -- Dan Ford (who wrote the definitive AVG history)

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich in history, November 13, 2003
This review is from: Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Flying Tigers, or formally "American Volunteer Group," did more than just helping China defend itself against an aggressive Japan, but gathered intelligence for the U.S. military and helped pave the way for U.S. victory in the Orient. This video gives a very vivid account using actual footages as well as interviews. It's well edited and inspiring. A must-have for history buffs and others.

This is the best Flying Tiger video there I've seen. In fact, it is one of the two best military aviation history videos I have seen. PBS did their research, and created the most accurate and interesting portrayal of the Flying Tigers on film. My other military aviation favorite is "Wing & A Prayer" the story of Utah Man, a B-24 from the Ploesti raid. Get them both - you won't be disappointed.
