5.0 out of 5 stars The one to see!, October 20, 1999
This review is from: Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Really the best video ever made about the American Volunteer Group, rich in "home movies" that I at least had never seen before, with some telling interviews (Red Foster Hanks, who was briefly married to AVG pilot John Petach, was especially good), and for the first time interviews with a Japanese pilot and two New Zealanders who fought against and alongside the Flying Tigers. -- Dan Ford (who wrote the definitive AVG history)

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich in history, November 13, 2003
This review is from: Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Flying Tigers, or formally "American Volunteer Group," did more than just helping China defend itself against an aggressive Japan, but gathered intelligence for the U.S. military and helped pave the way for U.S. victory in the Orient. This video gives a very vivid account using actual footages as well as interviews. It's well edited and inspiring. A must-have for history buffs and others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Flying Tiger Video, January 24, 2002

This is the best Flying Tiger video there I've seen. In fact, it is one of the two best military aviation history videos I have seen. PBS did their research, and created the most accurate and interesting portrayal of the Flying Tigers on film. My other military aviation favorite is "Wing & A Prayer" the story of Utah Man, a B-24 from the Ploesti raid. Get them both - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honoring the Flying Tigers with love!, August 30, 2008

Fei Hu - the Mandarin Chinese meaning Flying Tigers, was a proud but forgotten chapter in WW II Asian Theater. It documents the comradeship of Chinese and American peoples fighting against Japanese invaders. It is a well research and concisely made film dedicated to honoring the veterans in training the Chinese Air Force, flying over the hump and fighting the Japanese. The American Volunteer Group involvement, support and courage frightened the Japanese pilots in their Mitsubishi planes. The Flying Tigers scored an impressive record of downing Japanese planes by the shark jaws painted in the plane body. This American goodwill inspired the Chinese in risking their lives in saving Doolittle Team pilots in 1942 who after the Tokyo Raid landed in Japan- occupied China to Chung King and eventually back to US. The Chinese civilians and American pilots reunion in US in early 90s affirmed this long friendship.

In summer of 2002, I had the honor of addressing the 55th Reunion of CBI Veterans National Convention in St Louis, Missouri in thanking the dedication and sacrifice of American people and friendship along with a certificate of appreciation from St Louis alliance in Preserving the Truth of Sino-Japanese War.

Flying Tigers is American story of the Greatest Generation. Every American student need to learn and honor these patriotic heroes in sacrifice, freedom and justice

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent film, December 5, 2007
This review is from: Fei Hu: The Story of the Flying Tigers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
A wonderful film. Now I know why the Flying Tigers were left out of "Victory at Sea" even though there was an episode on China, Burma, and the Burma Road: they were considered civilians, despite the fact that they were ex-military and were promised no loss of rank or seniority after their stint, and finally, they were too successful! I love this movie and have seen it at least four times and have only owned it about two weeks. By the way, my Chinese colleague says that Hu means "Tiger" and Fei means "Flying" or "Brave" in Mandarin Chinese.

I recently saw a movie on China Airlines about an American Flying Tiger shot down in occupied China, his rescue by the Chinese and his epic journey across China to freedom. It was in English/Chinese, with subtitles in both. I do not recall the title, but would like to get a copy of the video. This was a 5 star movie.
