Fits tightly, stays on!

Works well, firm yet flexible, adapts my Bosch and Festool hoses to numerous other tools, such as my Makita sander and biscuit cutter.

I use several of these Fein step adaptors (drawing into either the 4" shop system or to one of my Porter-Cable vacuums). They provide a reliable friction fit into the dust tubes of every Bosch and Makita tool I own, and plenty of others as well. I have found that the Jet and other brands of step adaptor just aren't worth the effort: Poor fit means I have to tape them into place, which means that I've just dedicated a crummy little adaptor to one machine or portable tool. Nuts.

Until there's a law that all light machines and portable tools must have the same size TAPERED dust portal, I'll happily go on settling for this tapered fitting and skip the rest of the plastic.

Oh yeah. The Fein is also better made and more durable than its competitors -- vital for a piece of plastic that's always getting pulled out of one fit-up and jambed into another.

I use this stepped rubber tube often between a Ridgid 6" R/O sander and the hose from my venerable Fein Turbo Two shop vac. Once inserted firmly in the vacuum adaptor provided by Ridgid the resulting tight seal makes for a very efficient dustless vacuum setup.

Unfortunately at times it seems a bit too efficient with the sander motion being constrained by the powerful suction of the Fein vac. I modified the step adaptor by drilling a half-inch hole in the exposed part that is between the sander and vac hose and the resulting "air leak" allows for a good balance of suction and sander mobility. The result is WAY better than sanding without a vacuum set-up. Would recommend.

Don't be oversold on the hyped superiority of Festool vacs for their tools. While they are excellent vacs (I own one in addition to a Fein Turbo II) with tons of features, strictly from a vacuuming standpoint they don't offer any better performance than the Fein - and that includes any supposed advantage of the Festool vac's variable speed.

The one use for which I prefer the Festool vac is for sanding. But that's because I have a Festool vac with a HEPA filter, and I do not have the HEPA filter for my Fein. There is also one really good reason to prefer the FEIN vac over Festool, and that's the cost of bags! Unlike sanding dust, chips from a tool like the Festool Domino will fill a bag in a hurry. Do yourself a favor and attach the Domino to your Fein instead!

This adapter can be trimmed to fit any Festool power tool and will store nicely in the Systainer. It is as flexible as the end of the Festool hose, so will adapt to either the round or oval dust outlets on Festool tools.

I bought this to attach my Craftsman 6 HP shop vac to my Makita 5" random orbit sander. I bought the 1-1/4" hose for the vac and this adapter. I cut off the largest ring of the adapter, and removed the dust bag from the Makita, and it slipped right on. Recommended if you're tired of eating dust.

The small accessory is reasonably priced compared to some other Fein accessories, and it's really useful -- much more so than the cylindrical rubber connector that comes with the vacuum.

Put the large diameter end over the end of the vacuum hose and you can securely push the other end into the dust port of a miter saw, orbital sander or other dust-generating tool that has a 1" to 1-1/4" diameter dust port (25 to 31 mm). For example it matches the Fein hose to the dust port of a Bosch sliding compound miter saw securely enough so that the hose stays in place when the saw goes back and forth on the sliders.

You really don't need to trim it for the particular tool you're attaching it to. Just leave it untrimmed and you can use for many tools.

I think if Congress really wanted to actually do something to better our lives, they would pass a law that required all power tool manufacturers to use the same size dust collector port for a particular type of tool. I'm so tired of having to come up with my own creative means, which usually involves duct tape, in addition to using a plethora of various after market adapters to simply try and connect a shop vac and hose for dust collection.
In the mean time though, this Fein adapter has come in handy for use with my DeWalt miter saw. It's not a perfect solution all by itself, but along with a wrap of duct tape and an additional Shop-Vac step adapter, I can actually get my vac hose connected for surprisingly effective dust collection.
Unfortunately, this adapter didn't fit my Makita 3" X 24" belt sander as I had hoped, which is primarily what I originally bought it for, but I found that it will fit the dust collector port on my older Delta scroll saw, so it does have more than one purpose around the shop.
I would say for the price, it's definitely worth having it in your adapter arsenal. It seems well made and this adapter is sure to come into its own for connecting dust collection to some tool you already have around the shop.

I didn't expect much from the pic but this is one very useful item. I rigged up an adapter for my dust collection system for my old sander but when I got my new Makita, I new I needed something better. It fit the the new sander and I cut the nozzle of the hose back to fit the largest step on the adapter. I expected to have to duct tape it to the hose but it's now a perfect fit on that end. The outlet on the Makita sander was a bit small so I gave it one wrap of duct tape and now the adapter fits nice and tight over it.

I don't see myself needing another one but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one more.
