I bought two LED bulbs for outside over the garage use and mounted in security type fixture. After one week use, one of the bulb failed only after 40 Hrs of use. I called Feit to complaint and they said it is not Dimmable even though they advertised as Dimmable and would not refund me ,They asked me to call AMAZON for refund since I bought through AMAZON. AMAZON refunded me fully without any question. I do not recommend these bulbs!

Love the look, brightness and instant-on low consumption LED features of this light. I've replaced the Philips 90w flood lights with 20 of these on the perimeter of our house (previous owner' installed so many lights!!!) That said....

WEATHERPROOF?
As for the outdoor part of this light... One of the has filled with water (see picture). Thinking that I got a bad light and the weather-seal was not working I replaced it with a fresh out of the pack one. No luck!

Light number one got filled with water from the melting snow. Light number Two (that I replaced 2 weeks ago, Spring 2013) got filled with water today April 12, 2013, after an all night New England Spring rain storm).

Disclosure: Out of the 20 Lights, this is the only light that hangs out in one corner of our house, not under the eaves, so it gets direct rain, hence...

So I'm wondering if the "Weatherproof" quality of this light ONLY applies to dryer weathers, I don't know, let'say, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California... And Not for Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Washington, etc...

So, now fearing that the the Flawed, flooded flood Light is going to short on me... I'll have to go back (at least for that location) with an old Philips power-hungry 90w sealed bulb...

This is the cheapest 90W (or brighter) equivalent LED PAR38 light bulb assembly I could find, and it's also rated as one of the brightest 90W equivalents in its price range, at 1035 lumens. Unfortunately, it's significantly dimmer than the 100W bulb it replaced, and the beam is not nearly as broad. But don't just take my word for it--there are numbers to back me up based on the bulb's specs alone. Energy.gov (energy.gov/energysaver/articles/lumens-and-lighting-facts-label) recommends replacing a 75W incandescent bulb with a CFL or LED bulb rated at 1100 lumens. This bulb even falls short of that, at only 1035 lumens. I don't understand how the bulb manufacturers are allowed to get away with such false advertising, especially when some other brands of "90W equivalent" LED bulbs are rated at around 900 lumens.

The old bulb lit my entire 1-car driveway, but this one leaves the area closer to the house fairly dim. My kitchen is adjacent to the driveway, and the old incandescent bulb used to light up the kitchen curtain almost like daytime, so I knew when it was on. But the new bulb only faintly illuminates the curtain, so it's hard to tell whether the light is on or if the curtains are just catching the ambient light outside.

One additional thing to keep in mind is that the entire unit is one big heatsink to dissipate the heat of the high-current LEDs. This makes it quite heavy, so make sure your fixture is nice and sturdy if you're considering installing these bulbs. I have a brand-new heavy-duty all-metal RAB floodlight fixture, and after installing this bulb the socket sags enough that the outer edge of the bulb rests against the inside of the fixture. The old bulb was nicely centered within the fixture.

Update 9/10/2013: Did receive the replacement bulb after 4-8 weeks, kind of lost track. The replacement bulb was functional. As of today, no more bulbs have failed. However I live in the DFW area and we are in a bit of a drought, so keeping my fingers crossed, praying for rain and hoping these bulbs survive the rain. The did the last rainy day where we got 1.4" of rain. They really look better than the incandescents I had before, cautiously thinking about upgrading back to 4 stars.

Update: 06/21/13. After in use for about 4 months, one bulb failed after a rain storm with noticeable water inside. They advertise these as weatherproof with the rain symbol on the package. I read one comment that weatherproof does not mean waterproof. Well I say 'Poppy Cock' they also advertise these as 'true replacements' for incandescent bulbs, i never had one of those fill with water from rain. These are all mounted under an eave in weather resistant holders. They are not installed under the surface of my pool, if they were then I would seek waterproof bulbs. Weatherproof certainly implies they will withstand whatever weather mother nature throws at them whether it be rain, sleet or snow ... hail i will let slide. I contacted Feit and they gave me return instructions. They have received the bulb and I am currently awaiting my replacement. Will update when/if I receive it. For now, downgraded to 3 stars.

_----_---------------------------

I live in a gated community where a lot of home owners light up their homes at night with flood lamps. My home has 11 of these flood lamps. The previous owner had left two cases of light bulbs, the 90W incandescent type. Being energy concious, I did not like to turn mine on daily due to it being equivalent of running a hair dryer for hours on end.
