Innovative and looks good,
This review is from: Feit Electric NL6/LED Theatre-Style Night Light with Sensor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Produces a reasonable amount of light that can be directed downwards with the fins so that it illuminates the floor without being blindingly bright when you look directly at it. This is a great choice for lighting a hall or doorway where you don't want to illuminate the whole room. It takes up enough space that it is difficult to use the second outlet for anything other than a small two-prong plug, so this is not a great option if you often need the second outlet for something with a power-brick. It looks good - very much like a theatre-style path-light and is not obtrusive. The sensor turns it on when there is a low light level but there is no on-off switch. Not a big deal as the LED should be using very little power. It does not generate perceptible heat when in use.

Cute, but not all that bright.,

Of course, it's not supposed to be that bright, being a night light, but what I'm talking about is just the design and performance here.
First, I got two of these along with six other nightlights of a different design in a bulk "8 pack" for way way less than buying one individually, so please do yourself a favor and shop around for other ways this manufacturer packages their nightlights. Second, the sensor is supposed to turn them off when your overhead lights are turned on, but neither of my theatre style lights turn off automatically. One even has two sixty watt bulbs burning about nine feet right above it, and it says on. A different design from the same manufacturer turns on and off perfectly in relationship to the indoor lighting. The only way to get the theatre style to turn off is to shine a flashlight directly in the light sensor. So, well see about the 50,000 hours if my theatre lights stay on for five and a half years straight, because they never turn off. Finally, these are just tall enough so that if I plug them directly into my wall outlet in the top plug, they render the bottom useless, and if I plug them into the bottom plug, they make it impossible to plug a three-prong plug into the top plug. So, maybe some engineers need to get out of the theatre and do some redesign work here. At least I only paid about two dollars each for mine, and they do look neat when they're on, which is all the time.

Pros: Neat looking, energy efficient, good amount of light, light detection switch works well, lifetime warrenty
Cons: 1. There are only 2 leds, not 3 listed in the technical specs 2. Unit is big and will block the second outlet. You will most likely have to unplug unit if you want to use a vaccum cleaner or anything alike. 3. My kid loves to mess with the louvers on the thing. Overall: I really like the it. I have only had it for a few days, but it gives my home a uniform lighting look at night. Hopefully they last for awhile.

Many issues with most of FEIT's night lights! BUYER BEWARE!,

This review is from: Feit Electric NL6/LED Theatre-Style Night Light with Sensor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have had numerous FEIT lights and have had MANY problems. This night lite seemed like a decent unit, but two of them have died within a year. The dome shaped NL4 has lasted the longest. FEIT seems to be using really cheap LED's or circuitry, both of which can lead to early failure. I would NOT by this unit again or any of their other night lites with clear lenses as they have all had issues. This is not an electrical issue in my home as I have placed some at several relatives home with the same failure rate. I have personally returned the defective units to FEIT's office in CA and rcvd horrible customer service. They told me they would test them and let me know what was wrong, but they NEVER followed up. Buyer beware!

Good: a little too bright and distinctly blue,

This is a totally functional night light. The automatic shut-off sensor shuts it off when other lights are on in the room. For my taste, this light is a little too bright. It is fine for a hallway, but it would be too much for a bedroom. Also, the color is distinctly blue.

Poor Quality Control,
This review is from: Feit Electric NL6/LED Theatre-Style Night Light with Sensor (Tools & Home Improvement)
The very first time I removed it to place it in another location the blades that plug into the wall pulled out and stayed stuck in the outlet! Very dangerous! I had to hurry outside to shut off the circuit breaker before anyone might touch the energized metal blades sticking out of the outlet. The blades are supposed to be soldered into the inner circuit board but they both had what are referred to as "cold" solder joints. Very poor QC work during assembly. I don't know how they got a UL approval on this thing. I put it in the trash.

Ok. But not much light,

Yes, as other say, the louvers are a pain to position. And like every other LED nightlight I've tried, the light does not 'project' very far. Nothing I've found yet beats the soft, yet 'full area' illumination of a regular incandescent nightlight bulb. But at least with this LED (being reviewed), the light is not 'harsh'.

This little guy puts out plenty of light for a short stairway or a small room (I use it in my bathroom). One consideration: the louvers, being white, reflect as much as they direct, so they don't really concentrate the light much in a particular direction. And as another reviewer mentioned, it is a bit large so you can't put a 3 prong plug or a power cube into the adjacent outlet. But most two prong plugs will squeeze in.
Edit: I recently noticed that the light sensor in this unit isn't as sensitive as the similar light I replaced. So be aware that if the place you put it doesn't receive much light during the day, it may not go off in the daytime. This is a very minor issue though because it draws so little power.

This product is great, the light is a soft blue tone. It doesn't hurt your eyes when you wake up in the middle of the night. You can angle the fins on the night light, so the light is not all over the place. And as soon as Amazon has more in stock ill be getting a few more.

Takes up whole outlet!!,
This review is from: Feit Electric NL6/LED Theatre-Style Night Light with Sensor (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a nice nite lite, classy looking, bright enough, and you can adjust the direction of the light. But, because of the placement of the plug, you can't use the other half of the outlet. It just barely covers enough of it to make it impossible to use.
I like the glow it gives off though, and I hope it lasts a lot longer than those cheap little incandesent nite lite bulbs!!! |
