Felco F-5 Classic Manual Pruning Shears

I bought these after losing my old ones, which had black handles and were hard to spot when misplaced. The Felco shears are of high quality and cut "like butta". I couldn't be happier with their performance. Buy 'em - you won't be disappointed. The red rubber handles also make them easy to keep track of.

I have been a devotee of Corona and still have a 40 year old "made in Switzerland" hand pruner inherited from my dad. But it has a broken blade...not able to find a replacement. And the new Corona's are just not in the same league as my old one. So this entry model F-5 Felco looked like a good choice especially at a price under $20.
The PROS for the Felco F-5:
1. Simple, strong, bullet proof construction. No parts coming loose and falling off like many of the current hand pruners being sold.
2. Easily handles the occasional heavy cuts that would break or severly challenge all other hand pruners I have tried.
3. The Red handle. I will never own hand pruners that do not have a bright Red, Red-Orange or Orange handle. In real life I deliberately drop or set my pruner down to clear cuttings out of the way. I tried a holster but for me it was a nuisance, especially when I was working and manuevering in heavy landscaping. It seems most hand pruner manufacturers have taken to emphacizing style over function...using sophisticated colors like various shades of green, maroon and even black. Needless to say these colors can "disappear" your pruner if you drop it or lay it down.

CONS - None to date

In summary I am very impressed with my new Felco and am now considering getting one of their more expensive "made in Switzerland" models. I always like to keep extra hand pruners in each of my vehicles "just in case".

My grandparents are hardcore lawn and plant maintenance people. Grandma said she wanted new shears for Christmas because her old ones were pretty much destroyed. These are a little expensive, but any bought for less fall apart. They are truly the best in the business. Not much you can do to destroy these except melt them with thermite.

I bought these after hearing so many recommendations from gardeners who love them and from the Amazon reviews. They cut very well but they always start sticking after using them for a few minutes. They must be cleaned and lubed after every use. I find myself using my made in Japan, 20 year old Shears, that I have abused and put away dirty many times. They hardly ever stick and still cut quite well. I should have bought the higher priced Felco's and maybe I would be happier.

I have used Felco products for years and this new pruner is very good. I love the replaceable springs and blades so if you happen to damage them, you eed not buy a new pair.

I had a very nice Japanese type prunner that I liked better, but someone decided they liked it just as much and took it from my garage. Teaches me to leave my garage door closed huh?

Anywho, these are nice prunners although a wee bit heavier and not really made for small hands. So I am seriously thinking about purchasing the one made for small hands. Problem is justifiying the additional cost of purchasing another pruner. Why I opted to buy this one was the difference between $31.00 (what I paid for these) and the $43.00 for the other. I didn't think it was a big deal ... but now I'm having second thoughts.

One of the things I see often when people prune is they leave what I call "Stubbies". I don't like subbies and makes the prunning look unprofessional as well as stubbies sometimes create problems when they start to rot and collect all sorts of nasty insects.

So I like a nice thin blade where I can get as close as possible to the main branch if I were cutting off another branch coming off it. Other than the weight and the width of the handle when fully opened, I really like these prunners. Solid and well made.

My only other concern is living in Hawaii, EVERYTHING corrodes or rusts! Two things you can't live without here are Rustoleum and WD40 LOL! Hey, even stainless steel starts to corrode after a while!

Ah, the price you pay for livig in paradise!

Easy to operate, easy to care for, and they work. What's not to like? I have a significant problem with arthritis in my hands, and these small-job pruning shears are just the ticket.

These Felco products fit even my arthritic hands. They start sharp and stay that way.

Comfortable but very sticky, you have to clean them often. What is the secret to make them go smooth?... I found myself using a pair of WOLF-Garten much more often. I don't recommend Felco-5.

The shears are well worth the money spent. I have wasted lots of money on $7 and $8 shears that never met advertised specs - Falco exceeds their promise!
