3.0 out of 5 stars Series Getting a Little Tired
This used to be a favorite series of mine, but it is starting to get a little weary. The same phrases are used over and over, like murder magnet, to the point it gets distracting. Unless the author has a trick up her sleeve, I will probably be passing on further installments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again Linda O. Johnston has written a creative crazy complex and charmingly delightful cozy/amateur sleuth mystery, July 18, 2010
This review is from: Feline Fatale (A Kendra Ballantine, Pet-Sitte) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kendra Ballantyne works as an attorney for a small laid-back law firm dealing mostly with the elderly and those who have pet problems. She is dating wealthy Dante, owner of the Hot Pets supply chain. Currently she is pet-sitting at the Brigadoon Complex so her friends Wanda and Darryl can go on vacation.

Kendra gets into a fracas with Margaret Shafter who doesn't like strangers on her complex and opposes pets inside as that brings in outside riffraff. Teddy and Ruth Bertinetti support Margaret. Wanda returns Kendra's call and informs the lawyer that Brigadoon is divided over the pet issue with several making nasty dangerous threats. The next time Wanda contacts Kendra is when she is a murder suspect. One of the cats, Lady Cuddles, escaped entering Margaret's apartment. Wanda followed the frisky feline inside the apartment where Margaret was apparently murdered. Kendra promises to find the killer, but instead realizes a horde of people had viable motives. Kendra turns to a risky extraordinary method to flush out the culprit.

Once again Linda O. Johnston has written a creative crazy complex and charmingly delightful cozy as Feline fatale is one of the better amateur sleuths in the Pet-Sitter mystery series (see Howl Deadly). Kendra is a caring courageous person who goes the extra kilometer for her friends and loves Dante despite his excesses. Fans of the saga will appreciate the heroine as she tries to identify the murderer to insure Wanda is no longer a suspect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Enough Already, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Feline Fatale (A Kendra Ballantine, Pet-Sitte) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok, I was hesitant to read this book. The two previous were mediocre and I "hoped" this one would be better. Up to par with the original books in the serious that made me like Kendra Ballityne, Pet-sitter. I was really really disappointed. I felt like the author was having to repeat things over and over to fill pages...like she had run out of ideas. The side "show" of her law cases, her pet-sitting, her meddling with her friends doggie daycare, and her love life were annoying at best. I got tired of the "murder magnet" being thrown in there every 15 minutes...and especially got tired of repeat descriptions (i.e. describing the conference room at the law office as the former bar in the restaurant that her boss purchased for the law office...it was already described once...it didn't need to be repeated numerous times through the book). It was just boring.

The only redeeming factor was the murder surrounding the board member of the HOA. THAT was realistic and could very well fit into today's atmosphere with HOA boards trying to meet everyone's needs (and sometimes their own personal agendas). But once the mystery was solved...it wasn't as realistic as where Ms. Johnston could have gone with it. It was just..."eh".

This is book 9 of the series and I really felt this series should have been laid to rest after book 6 or 7. Just not that into this series anymore.

4.0 out of 5 stars An absorbing and cleverly crafted tale, September 1, 2011
This review is from: Feline Fatale (A Kendra Ballantine, Pet-Sitte) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kendra Ballantyne is back again, this time taking over a pet-sitting job in an apartment complex for her friend Wanda, who is on vacation with her boyfriend Darryl. One of the residents, an irate pet-hater named Margaret Shafter, immediately confronts Kendra on her first day on the job, demanding to see her credentials. Kendra soon realizes that the complex is currently embroiled in an ongoing pet policy debate, with Margaret and another couple, Teddy and Ruth Bertinetti, at the forefront of the anti-pet movement. But when a mischievous cat named Lady Cuddles escapes from her owners' apartment and sneaks into Margaret's apartment, leading to the discovery that Margaret has been murdered, it soon becomes clear that much more is at stake in the complex than a pet policy. Ever the clever sleuth, Kendra is determined to find the killer and clear her friend's name, as Wanda has become a prime suspect in the unfolding drama. Both new readers and old fans of this series will enjoy following Kendra on this entertaining ride all the way to its surprising but satisfying conclusion.
