Feliway Frugality - For Frustrated Feline Fanciers,
By
This review is from: Feliway Plug-In Diffuser Refill, 48 Milliliters (Misc.)
Feliway Comfort Zone diffusers are great for reducing stress in cats. They help prevent aggression and urine marking in the home. But, they are really expensive- $15-18 per monthly refill. I had the brilliant idea to use a $5 appliance timer (electric socket timer from Home Depot) to reduce the amount of Feliway dispensed by the Diffuser. To ensure the Diffuser is releasing product frequently, I use a timer that allows for 15 minute intervals and set it to supply electricity 1/3 of the time (ie on for 15 minutes off for 30 minutes). The timer makes the product last 3 times as long so it pays for itself in less than a month. Feel free to experiment with the timing. Perhaps you can get away with having it on for just 15-30 minutes 3 times a day, it will depend on your cat's level of stress. I would start with it being on 1/2 of the time and gradually decrease the time as kitty feels better. I hope this tip will help people to keep their beloved kitties and help kitties heal from the issues that lead them to tinkle in the house. Please repost this tip on any animal related sites.
Here is a similar timer to mine but this one only allows for 30 minute intervals, which may be just fine. [[ASIN:Woods 59366 Lamp and Appliance Timer with 3-Prong Outlet, Repeats Daily]]

Buy the ones in the pink boxes!,

This review is from: Feliway Plug-In Diffuser Refill, 48 Milliliters (Misc.)
I have had wonderful luck with the Feliway refills that come in the pink boxes, but for some reason the wicks on these dry up on me after being plugged in just a week. At first I thought my diffuser was overheating to dry the wick, but I tried a new diffuser and it did the same thing. I cannot understand why only the blue box Feliway does this, but it does.
The ingredients come from France, and there are two different distributors for the pink and the blue boxes. Maybe it has something to do with how they are stored in the warehouses.

Feliway,

Excellent product. The only thing that has controlled our cat's occasional penchant for urinating on our bed. When our initial diffuser refill was gone, we tried not using the Feliway for a while, but our boy soon convinced us to order another refill. We might still try not using it at times, but will always keep a spare on hand.

Feliway and Comfort Zone are interchangeable....,

After lots of research, last year I purchased Farnam Comfort Zone Plug-In Diffuser with Feliway, 48 Milliliters for my cat's urine marking habit. I'd say that this pheromone has been about 85%-90% effective in preventing his problem. Up until recently I've been buying this refill Farnam Comfort Zone Feliway 48-Milliliter Refill Bottle. When I was researching last year, I read that there was a problem with these refills: Feliway Plug-In Refill, 48 Milliliters so I didn't buy this one. I don't even remember what the problem was; I do remember it was somewhat minor. The prices have been slowly increasing, so I decided to try the Feliway refill because it was less expensive. I didn't have any trouble with it, so I purchased the Feliway 48-Milliliter Plug-In Refills, 6 Refills to save even more money.
Feliway Plug-In Refill, 48 Milliliters & Farnam Comfort Zone Feliway 48-Milliliter Refill Bottle are interchangeable; either one will work in the diffuser. In my experience, they are both equally effective. Both refills last a little over a month.

Sanity restored!,

I have 2 crazy boys. To protect their identities, I usually refer to them as "Thing 1" and "Thing 2." If you are familliar with the Dr. Seuss characters, you have an idea of the chaos they can create. They are morning people, I am not. They do cannonballs off the tall dresser onto my sleeping body... I swear I've heard them snicker. One of them even sharpens his claws on the wall. He's stripped it down to the sheetrock in 2 places! The other is a natural putter... he has a soft swing which he uses to knock water bottles off any and every surface.
This stuff is Zen in a bottle for cats and their people. They sleep when the lights are off now. They play nice with each other, purr and turn upside down when they see me coming. I feel I can repair the walls and they will stay that way. I've given up bottled water but they leave my heavy mugs alone. If you have problem kids (furry ones) try this. It works well in a 250+ sq ft closed room. Not sure how well it will work in a large room with air flow. If you are at your wits' end, this could be your feline intervention.

Didn't work at all for my cat.,
We had a cat that was a very good cat until the kids came along. She hated the kids. Everywhere the kids were, she'd follow and urinate. If the baby was in the crib, she'd urinate in the crib. If the baby was on the comforter, she'd urinate on the comforter. It got to the point that we were prisoners in our own home. Everything the baby lay on could never be left out. We had to make sure all blankets and cribs and anything the baby touched were locked in a room away from the cat.
When my daughter came along, the cat went to war. She decided she'd had enough of kids and was going to abandon her litter box. I had spent so much money trying to get the cat to use her litter box. Feliway was a failed experiment. We had it plugged in the dining room, where she decided to urinate all along one wall every single day. It did nothing to deter her. In fact, I think the Feliway just made her more upset. _______________ UPDATE: If you are confused about the difference between Comfort Zone with Feliway and Feliway, they are the same hormone. I used both products and didn't see any difference.

Reduces cat peeing,
This review is from: Feliway Plug-In Diffuser Refill, 48 Milliliters (Misc.)
I've yet to find the end-all, save-all to get my older cat to stop peeing on my bed. This, in combination with the spray, is the most successful I've been. When I leave home I spray the bed, put the motion sensor alarm on it and hope for the best.

I bought the feliway diffuser and refill in an attempt to calm my cat that inappropriately urinates when she is stressed. I am having a baby in three months and figured that this may help the transition and put my husband and I at ease when bringing home the baby. So far we have been using it for a month and are very pleased. Our cat is very chill and noticeably less stressed by visitors. We have not had the baby yet, but intend on keeping the feliway diffuser in use to help her anxiety. We are also thinking about getting more diffusers for a couple other rooms in the house.

This product works as it says on the package, that is it reduced the fighting and spraying in our house -- but it did not totally eliminate it like so many other reviewers have claimed. Still, the fighting between my cat and my husband's cat kept escalating from the moment we combined households and it got to the point where I was almost constantly cleaning up their 'spray' and since using this product (for 5 weeks) they get along a lot better (maybe two or three fights per week)and I've only had to clean up after them a few times.
