I have a professional home office and need to shred many docs a day. I bought this shredder for it's high page capacity and speed. I - at present - am shredding a large number of docs, so the issues I am about to highlight are really annoying with such a volume before me. However, even without the volume, I would find this product impractical for the same reasons.

First, it's LOUD. I have an old Fellowes Shredder, 8 page capacity, which is much quieter. There is NO chance you can be chatting on the phone with a co-worker/client and shred at the same time. I don't know about you, but sitting in front of the shredder doing nothing but seems like a waste of my time.

Second up, the receptacle is side loaded, meaning when you empty it, any shreds still clinging to the blades (and they are always) will either a) block your ability to slide the compartment out, and/or b) spill outside/inside of the shredder, causing a mess in your office, and in the compartment chamber (the latter which will need to be cleaned out by hand or it will block the paper receptacle from sliding back in properly.

Third, the receptacle is small, so if you're not paying attention, it will jam on your own shreddings, AND those that cling to the blades, resulting in a hand-to-machine wrestling match AND a mess.

These shortcomings might not be as annoying in a low-volume personal home office setting. I, however, would expect that if I am capable of neatly emptying the shredded paper bin/receptacle, that a product should allow me that accomplishment. I have proven I can do this with other models. There is no way to empty this shredder without making a mess.

I would absolutely not recommend this product for professional use.

And, don't buy the Fellowes Performance Oil. Just use veg oil...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great durable shredder November 13, 2010
By Nichol
This shredder looks great, does its job, and shreds everything with it's cross cut technology. I love how it will shred through paperclips and staples even credit cards. It is a bit loud but if you keep up on all your shredding, you will only have to deal with it for a short time. The safety feature this has is awesome. If you get your hand to close, it stops...a wonderful feature for those with kids. There is also a lock. Great shredder!

Clearly designed by someone who never emptied a shredder. Only way to use it is to be ever vigilant about the amount of shreddings created and empty at about the halfway point. You are guaranteed a spectacular mess with each emptying. I'm going to have to replace this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Noisy but powerful, emptying shredder is a pain.
If you shred more than 24-30 pages (depends on size and thickness), expect to have to dump the shredder or you'll be cleaning up shreds inside the case and all over the floor. Read more

Read the negative reviews here - they are spot on! I bought this and returned it the same day (yesterday). It looks pretty and can handle 12 pages at a time. Read more

I love that this shredder will stop if someone's hand (or pet appendage) goes near the area where you stick the papers in. Great for me since I have 2 younger boys. Read more
