Set up and instructions were very quick and easy to follow.
Ms. Read
This laminator is extremely easy to use: plug it in, wait a moment for light indicating it's ready for use, feed the pouch in and retrieve it from behind.
Bill Oterson
I think the best thing about it was that there was no chemical smell from it as it warmed up the first time like there are with so many laminators.

Okay, so I am not your average laminator reviewer. Long ago, I bought a Scotch TL901 Thermal Laminator Scotch Thermal Laminator 2 Roller System (TL901) on an Amazon Gold Box Deal of the Day, which I reviewed. Then, as an Amazon Vine reviewer, I had an opportunity to test drive the AmazonBasics Thermal Laminator AmazonBasics Thermal Laminator, which I rated 5 stars. Now, Amazon Vine gave me a chance at yet another thermal laminator, and I opted to test the Fellowes L80-95 Personal Laminator.

Before I tell you why I like the Fellowes better than either of the others, I should tell you that I pasted my review of the AmazonBasics Thermal Laminator below for your reference, so that you can see how I felt about them. I will reference those laminators in this review.

Now, as for the Fellowes, I will start with the only negative worth noting, in my book. Presently, the selling price of the Fellowes unit is more than the selling price of the Scotch TL901 and AmazonBasics laminators COMBINED! So, if value is what you are seeking, you may be willing to compromise a bit and get either a Scotch TL901 or AmazonBasics unit. But if you are looking for the best laminator of the bunch, Fellowes is the winner in my book.

So, here's what I like about the Fellowes laminator, compared to the other 2:

+ Quickest Warm-Up Time: Ready in less than 3 minutes, this laminator beats out the AmazonBasics by a bit and the Scotch TL901 by a long way. This makes it more convenient to use.

I'd never really used a laminator before and was a bit tentative about even trying one out. I could think of 101 uses why I might want one from sealing identification cards to photographs. I had more trouble getting the pouches out of the bag than I did learning how to operate the laminator itself. I couldn't believe how simple it actually was, but once you take a look at my video, you'll see how simple it really is. There are only a few things to keep in mind and I'll go over them below.

All the "DO" and "DO NOT" safety instructions are clearly outlined in the manual. Of course some of them are no-brainers like do not "use appliance if the power cord is damaged." Separating the wheat from the chafe, you should remove those staples, use appropriate pouches, and don't exceed the machine's quoted performance. If you follow the instructions and don't pretend that the Fellowes Personal Laminator is a work horse and can take care of an overly large number of documents you'll be totally satisfied. I know I am.

Within a few minutes, literally, I was up and running. There are several different types of pouches one can purchase, but the Fellowes Personal Laminator came with a packet of letter-sized ones. After using the laminator, my comfort level with using it went way up and I'd like to try doing other things like cards and photographs. On the front of the machine you can easily see where to put your pouches according to the size document/photograph you need to laminate.

Just how easy is it?

Great Little laminator.

Excellent price for this piece of equipment. It is I’m sure designed for home use not steady day-to-day laminating. It's not too slow, just steady. It takes about a full minute to have a full size (8-1/2x11) sheet to exit the machine. About the same speed as the Royal laminator it’s replacing. I used it for about 20 sheets and the last item was as nicely done as the first.
Has a power light and ready light.

Documents say only 3 mil thickness lamination materials so I suspect 5 mil may not correctly laminate.

4 stars instead of 5 stars as it does not apparently handle 5 mil lamination pouches.

Bottom Line: It’s a great value for the amount of work I need to do.

I really wanted to give this laminator 5 stars - I really did - after I was able to laminate several documents with ease and no problems. Then, a document got caught in the machine... I could not get it out despite following the instructions in the instructions. So, while it did a great job of laminating my first few documents, it is basically now useless. Sorry - like I said, I really wanted to give this product 5 stars.

This is probably the 5th or 6th laminator I have purchased over the years, and I must say the technology is getting better as we move forward. The last one I got in May was the Swingline GBC Fusion 3100L 12" Laminator. It does absolutely rock, and has all the bells and whistles. The Fellowes laminator is small, only does notebook size items at a 3 mil. setting The Swingline can handle large pieces and up to 7 mil. The Fellowes lets you do notecard size items to a 5 mil setting. The cool thing about the Fellowes is its size and speed. Most of my projects only require a 3 mil setting and I can produce a finished product in mere minutes. As a elementary school teacher, this now sits right by my desk and I can finish a product from start to finish in no time. The footprint of the Fellowes is almost nothing. I hope this helps.
