This is my second tray. The first one lasted four years with almost daily use. The tray has definitely been improved over the years. Much smoother action when being pushed away or brought out. The side tray for the mouse is also much sturdier. I definitely like having the keyboard beneath desk level. Makes my keyboard time much more comfortable. I recommend this tray to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK for the price, August 17, 2008
This review is from: Fellowes Office Suites Underdesk Keyboard Drawer, Black/Silver (9140303) (Office Product)
I bought this keyboard tray so I could get my keyboard off the top of the desk (naturally). Overall, it does the job just barely well enough for me to not have ripped it out and installed a different one.

Pros:
- The mounting for the keyboard portion is reasonably solid
- The mouse pad can be set for left- or right-handed use
- It's an OK value for the money

Cons:
- The installation is difficult and badly documented. You need to be somewhat handy in order to follow the picture-only instructions. There are a number of key details of the installation that are *NOT* documented, and you need to figure them out for yourself.
- The keyboard tray is OK, but on the flimsy side.
- The mouse extension is *very* weak. If, like me, you use an oversize keyboard that takes up the entire keyboard tray portion you are forced to use the mouse tray. I can feel the mouse tray bending under my hand with every use. Frankly, I'm scared to put the full weight of my hand and arm on it because I'm afraid it will snap off.

Overall, I'm sure that there are better choices out there, and I suggest you find one of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars this product is lousy, January 3, 2006

Do not even waste your time with this under desk keyboard tray.

To say I am disappointed in this product would be an understatement. I and my staff has had more problems with screws that don't hold, lost nuts, and mouse trays and drawers that keep slipping out of their tracks. I am now in the process of having to research new under desk keyboard trays, and pay again for the trouble of purchasing and re-installing keyboard trays for something that should not have broken so quickly and been so shoddy to begin with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, February 1, 2010
This review is from: Fellowes Office Suites Underdesk Keyboard Drawer, Black/Silver (9140303) (Office Product)
This is a quality product. Buy It!

This Under-Desk Keyboard Tray is made of Plastic. It is very well-built, well engineered and rugged. If you want to pay $100.00 or more for a Metal Unit at one of the Office Stores go right ahead, but you will not get a better product at anywhere near this price.

If you can drill 4 holes and can use a Screw-Driver, you can easily mount this to the underside of your Desk. All you have to do is mount the L&R Steel Slides to the Tray with provided Screws, screw the Under Shelf Support Brackets to the Slides, then scotch tape the provided Paper Mounting Template to the under-side of your chosen Desk location. You then drill the four holes into the marked positions so noted on the Template.

The Tray will accommodate 3 different mounting heights, 1 3/4", 2 1/8" and 2 1/2" for different thickness of keyboards etc. The Tray itself is approximately 21.5" wide and the Slide-Out Mouse Tray is 9.5 " wide, so you will need a total of about 31" of underside desk space to mount this unit. Once the Tray is mounted you add the Self-Stick Padded Wrist Support to the front of the Tray.

End of Story!

I've been using this try for a couple of months now and I'm very satisfied with its performance. It was easy to put together and easy to install. The instructions are very simple and they double as a screw-hole guide when it comes time to attach it to you desk.

It has also held up admirably in the time I've used it. I bought this keyboard try to replace the one that came with my computer desk and after much leaning on and use as a foot rest it finally gave out. This Fellowes keyboard tray has put up with my abuse for months without any cracks, creaks or other complaints.

My only complaint about this product is that the slide-out mouse tray is a tad small. It does not accommodate the average sized mousepad, which leaves my mousepad drooping off the sides and there is no way to slide the mouse tray back under the keyboard with a mouse pad sitting on it. This, however, isn't much of a problem at all. Certainly not enough to recommend buying another keyboard tray. The price is right and it holds up well enough for individual use.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well... after a retro fit... or two... or three..., June 13, 2010
This review is from: Fellowes Office Suites Underdesk Keyboard Drawer, Black/Silver (9140303) (Office Product)
I bought this for my desk. My keyboard is still on top of my desk. I searched Amazon... but it is so hard to tell what they will be like when you get them at home... I took one look at it and decided to return it.
The same night my husbands keyboard actually fell to the floor (or should I say rocketed down from beneath his desk!) His was built in to his desk and being that he already had done some "interesting" patch jobs to his desk... I told him just to go buy a new one... but he is cheap! So he decided to use this tray.
He is pretty handy... but he swore up a storm installing this. The directions leave a bit to be desired. Luckily he uses a wireless mouse on top of his desk, because the mouse tray is pretty flimsy as someone else has already said. It would have been toast by now.
And he has a standard, boring keyboard with the 10 key pad and it fits... but BARELY and it does hang off the back. This is not deep at all. It seems balanced ok... he has never had it fall out the back, but it is perched there!
He has had 2 of the screws come out already (after about 4 months of use.) So he has had to retro fit some things. So to be sure it stays put it now does not pull out all the way and it is very tight... it does not roll smooth.
Honestly, I think that if you want a pull out keyboard tray that works well and is sturdy and will stand up to how much we use our computers you have to do one of two things.
Buy a new desk that has one as part of the design.
Or buy a drawer that is self contained that screws on to the bottom side of the desk with extensions that anchor it in other, multiple points on the desk. The problem is that these are usually very industrial looking and quite expensive.

When I bought this I was going to install it on my brand new corner desk. Which I loved SO MUCH I bought even though it had no keyboard shelf. I would have been devastated had I drilled holes in my desk for this product. I would NOT recommend any one consider this EVER.

However, given that my husband is using it as a "retro fit" product on his old desk I am going to give it 2 stars. It DOES hold up the keyboard. But the mouse pad is not functional at all really and we had to use more hardware to patch up issues that normal use created. This product needs some help. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than you might expect for the price, January 27, 2010

It's easy to install if you follow directions (template is accurate despite one reviewer's claim to the contrary; just line up the tray with the template before you drill, so you can determine if the positioning works for you). The tray feels more than solid enough, though I wouldn't recommend leaning on it with a lot of weight (but you wouldn't want to do that with any keyboard tray). Even the mouse extension feels more than solid enough--again, if you don't lean on it hard.

It takes some adjustment of tray and chair height to avoid hitting it with your legs but still allow room to type, but that's true of any keyboard tray; this one requires you to move four screws, which is a bit of a hassle but doable. Only real downside is that the mouse extension is a couple inches lower than the keyboard, and a bit far out to the side, so if you're mostly mousing, you may want to bring the mouse up to the desk--or just put a book on top of the mouse extension, which works quite well. (It's sturdy enough for a book an inch or so thick.)

Just remember it's mostly plastic, in particular the mounting, so be very careful installing it; if you break the mountings, you're sunk. And don't bang into it with your knees, legs, or chair. You're paying for the low price with the need to be careful, but it seems like a decent tradeoff so far.

Bottom line: Definitely worth giving it a shot for most needs. Four stars is only because it's hard to imagine it lasting forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loyal supporter, May 19, 2009

This review is from: Fellowes Office Suites Underdesk Keyboard Drawer, Black/Silver (9140303) (Office Product)
After reading the first reviewers comments (Jan. 2006), I suspect they have more serious issues than the quality of the tray. I've used my daily for years and it's been problem-free. I must now replace it because I leaned on the tray and broke one of the corner supports under my desk. It wasn't a flawed part, it was operator error. It is or was after all only plastic and not meant to support my weight. For the price, I don't believe you will find a better buy. My suggestion for future purchasers is to not use the tray as a support platform.

Just bought and installed it today...installation was easy and product seems nice except it's TOO SMALL for my MS Wireless desktop 5000 keyboard. Ugh. Who would've thought?

Check the measurements before you buy it...

4.0 out of 5 stars decent, but not great, September 29, 2010

Quality overall seems good. Mouse attachment is nice, but very flimsy. Installation was very difficult contrary to some reviews stating it was easy. If you can flip your desk over it's easy. If not, inculded template for drilling holes is useless. Comes folded and twised, so you can't use it as an accuate guide anyway. I basically had to crawl under my desk, use a pencil to mark the drill holes and drill from below. I can't imagaine how they could make the product to be installed any easier, but the template is no good. If you can flip your desk over (I could not), it would be 100x easier.
