Our old non-Fellowes home shredder died after I mistakenly ignored the instructions to limit how long to use it in one session; I had recently retired and was shredding lots of paper from old office records. So I researched shredders, talking with people I knew and reading various websites and consumer publications. Fellowes was always ranked first.

The P500-2 is inexpensive but solidly made, running smoothly and quietly. It isn't what you'd use in a busy office, but for a home or small business that shreds no more than, say, 100 pages a day, it's perfect. The feed mechanism works quickly and efficiently. There have been no problems with paper getting snagged in the mechanism. An easy recommendation.

I've used this shredder for quite a while now and it hasn't quit on me yet. Shreds through staples, tiny pieces of paper, just about anything I need to have shredded. An excellent buy for those on a tight budget.

I just started looking for a shredder for my mother-in-law and read many unfovorable reviews on shredders. I've had the Fellowes P500-2 for more than 3 years and it's worked great. It munches 5 or 6 sheets with no problem even with the occassional staple. It even crunches credit cards, but one at a time. It's plenty enough to do the daily mail, but when doing continuous files it lasts about 10 minutes before shutting down. I plan to purchase another as this seems like the best buy.

It quit on me after about three weeks and I can't find anyone to complain to. The voice on tape is nice but she can't hear my problem.

Bought this shredder thinking it would be better than the last one I bought. Worked well for a while, did a really nice job crosscutting. However, it tends to jam up with the teensy bits of paper, and you have to pull out the wads of shredded paper with pliers. Now, also, something has jammed inside of it, so the auto-off no longer works. So it will run until it is shut off. Also, it can only shred about two or three sheets at once before bogging down. I had high hopes for this and am really just totally unimpressed.
