Basic Jam Prevention

Paper jams are the biggest frustration among shredder users. That's why Fellowes shredders are engineered to take on every job, no matter how tough. The Fellowes 63Cb delivers basic jam prevention with patented Jam Blocker Technology to stop paper jams before they start.

Advanced Safety

Protect yourself and your family while shredding with SafeSense Technology. The 63Cb features an advanced electronic safety sensor that surrounds the paper entry and automatically disables the shredder when hands touch the paper opening.

Energy Efficiency

The 63Cb also features our Energy Savings System, which is the only system that saves energy while in use - when it matters most. When it comes to shredding, 80 percent of energy consumption comes from in-use activity.* Fellowes' Energy Savings System maximizes shredder energy savings 100 percent of the time--both in and out of use.

• In Use Savings -- performance and power supply efficiency
• Out of Use Savings -- Standby and Sleep Modes

* Average daily consumption based upon derived daily usage values from 3 competitive commercial shredders

Superior Performance

And there's more--the Fellowes 63Cb is built to last with solid steel cutters, a powerful motor, and parts that are engineered to outperform our competitors. With its cross-cut capability, it is also tough enough to cut through credit cards, paper clips, and staples while ensuring confidential documents are shredded into unreadable pieces. Additionally, the 63Cb features a 5-gallon pull-out bin for easy, mess-free waste disposal.

Other Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Shredder:

Cut Type

With identity theft concerns at an all-time high, the need to protect personal information is more important than ever. And these days, it's no longer just what you shred that matters-it's how small you shred it. Shredders with a smaller cut size will help keep your information secure long after you dispose of the particles. The smaller the cut size, the higher the security level.

Cut Type ChartCut Type Chart

If you shred confidential documents, choose cross-cut or smaller. A smaller cut size also means you will empty the bin less frequently.

Productivity

Shredder productivity goes beyond mere sheet capacity or speed. When shopping for a shredder, consider the machine's "throughput," or the efficiency with which it can get the job done. Throughput combines the three most critical features that contribute to a shredder's performance:

Sheet Capacity x Speed (feet per minute) x Duty Cycle = Throughput

For example, a shredder that can handle 15 sheets may seem more productive than one with a 14 sheet capacity. After all, it can shred more sheets at a time. But as the example below illustrates, Shredder B is actually two times more productive than Shredder A, due to a faster shred speed and a longer duty cycle.* This means you can get more done at one time, so you can quickly move on with your day.

Shred Rate ChartShred Rate ChartShred Rate Chart

*Duty Cycle is the amount of time a shredder can run continuously before needing a cool-down period.

Quality and Durability

We understand that a shredder is not just a purchase. It's an investment. That's why Fellowes drives quality assurance to exceed expectations. Prior to launch, all Fellowes shredders are subjected to extensive field and laboratory tests, including our proprietary continuous abuse test and long-term wear. These tests simulate years of abnormally high use to ensure our products perform reliably, even under the most demanding conditions.

Works very well and it is pretty quiet for a shredder.

The 63Cb can easily handle 10 sheets of paper at a time, with commendable speed; nothing like a heavy duty shredder, but fast nonetheless.
Nathan A. Edwards
Overall, I'm not happy, would not recommend this machine or any Fellowes shredder in the future.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
My job requires that I handle and dispose of documents containing sensitive information on a daily basis. While I have used light and medium duty shredders in the past, most of my shredding is performed with our office's communal heavy duty Fellowes shredder that is now several years old. Hands down, the Fellowes Powershred 63Cb is one of the finest shredders I have ever used. I definitely prefer it to any other light and medium duty shredders that I have used, and I have to say that, aside from the largest of jobs, I would probably choose the 63Cb over the old heavy duty unit.

My favorite feature of the 63Cb is the fact that it cross-shreds. As far as security is concerned, there is no comparison between traditional unidirectional shredders and a cross-shredder. Reassembling a cross shredded document would be immensely more difficult than aligning the pieces of a document shredded in one direction. I actually feel quite foolish for not seeking out a better solution to strip shredding sooner.

Beyond performing its function as a document destroyer exceptionally well, the 63Cb also has a couple of great safety features that should be a must have for just about anyone. The first of which is the Safesense Technology that stops shredding immediately when skin touches the bezel that surrounds the paper opening. This is huge for home office use when children might gain access to the machine. I don't know what it is about shredders, but they are irresistible to children. I have to add that, while this is a great feature, additional safety measures should be taken if there is a chance that children could access the machine. Touching the bezel only stops the machine if contact is made with skin. Long sleeves could easily prevent this valuable mechanism from working properly.

This shredder does what it is supposed to and is made by a company that you can trust to make a quality product. I wish it shredded to a shorter length, I got used to that on a small model I bought from Staples. The jamproof feature can be annoying: if you feed papers in that aren't tightly packed together, the air space can fool the shredder into thinking there are too many sheets.

PROS
-Heavy duty construction
-Plenty of power
-Large collection bin
-Shred speed is quick

CONS
-Jamproof feature doesn't always allow you to feed at rated paper capacity
-The length of the paper shreds could be shorter

I have had the PS 60 model several years. Worked okay, but I was having to open the thicker junk mail envelopes and separate the pages with my name on them to shred them.

I wanted a really powerful shredder to just shred thick, full envelopes in one quick motion. I spent $149.99 on a Fellowes Powershred 63Cb. I am giving it back.

Now I love my old shredder. My old Fellows PS-60 is faster and quieter and shreds as well or better than the 63Cb with envelopes with one or two pages inside.

My old one does not cross cut, but to really get a great shredder that does that, from what see in the reviews, I will have to spend $500 to $1000 to get a cross cutting shredder that quickly shreds an entire envelope in one shot.

If you want a really fast shredder to shred your piles of junk mail in seconds so that you can spend your time doing other things - look elsewhere!!!

I ordered this paper shredder based on the fact that I have another papershredder in my home by fellowes, which I love. This one, the top unit and the sides of the unit are 2 separate entities; so even though you have the pull out drawer, sometimes the top of the unit falls in. I gave it away and went out and bought a different shredder all together.

What I like about this shredder is that it does prevent getting overloaded or blocked up. It will also take brief time outs to restart on a thick bit of shredding to get it done. Wish it cut a little finer.

The shredded is excellent but there was a problem. There is supposed to be a safety mechanism to stop the shredding process if your fingers come too close to the feed. I tried to activate the mechanism with no luck. I then called the company. They sent another machine and asked that I return the first. I was unable to activate the safety turn off of the second machine. When they called me back I told them that it was OK because I was unable to even get my fingers far enough into the feed for it to be a reasonable risk. They however insisted that I return the second machine and they sent a third. The third machine is just like it's predecessors. The company paid for all return postage and they were very nice. However the safety mechanism to stop the machine does not seem to work as outlined in the owners manual. If you have tiny children and keep the machine plugged in at all times you may wish to test it.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have never owned a home shredder before getting this one so I don't really have much to compare it to. The box and description for the product states that it'll shred 10 sheets of paper at one time. I have yet to experience that. I believe that the most I was able to shred at one time was 4-5 sheets of paper. The documents that I shred are the normal letter size sheets so it's not like I'm shredding a bunch of construction paper or card stock etc. I've had a couple of jams because the sheets sometimes slide causing them to not go in straight at times which can be really frustrating. I also noticed that the Fellowes Powershred is also pretty noisy. I would definitely not use this shredder if you have a baby sleeping in the next room. I think this shredder works perfect if you have small amounts of paperwork to shred such as envelopes and bills but I wouldn't try shredding anything more than that. I'll continue to use it since it's very basic and works with the amount of documents that I need shredding. I wouldn't recommend this shredder to someone who runs a business from home and needs to shred large amounts of sensitive documents.
