Update: Today is November 20th and since I purchased this machine I have been running it hot. My daughter and I are in college and we use it a lot. It works like a charm, there is no doubt that it is well made just looking back at how much we have used it. In comparison to the one I have at work; I never had to pass a document through twice before it is laminated properly. Just once with this machine and it is perfectly sealed. This machine is also faster and more beautiful that the one at work. I have used 3 - 7 mil pouches with this machine and it runs just fine. I did not buy the Fellowes pouches, I just purchased some other cheaper kinds and the machine still did a fantastic job with them. We have tested it with 3 different brands of pouches. 7/6/2011 update -Still 5-Stars, great performance as always.
I reset it to the 3mil setting and waited for it to cool down and beep its ready signal. I again tried a 5mil pouch (at the 3mil setting). Much better, almost acceptable but still some waves. Tried a 3mil pouch and it came out very wavy -- I would call it rippled. No way to reduce heat any further since the machine only has two settings. Apparently this machine just runs hot!
Other issues... There were minor scratches on the front panel (this panel is completely protected during shipping, so it had to come out of the factory that way). Also, every few minutes the normal "humming" sound would change to a loud "buzzing" noise for several seconds (another reviewer complained of this too, so it isn't just this one).
I returned the SL95 to Amazon and purchased a GBC H212 instead. The H212 has variable heat control and auto-shutoff as well. Worked perfectly with the Fellowes pouches -- none of the problems I had with the SL95.
: Compact - it does not take up very much space
: Cord: it neatly winds around the back of the machine and hooks onto itself
: Quiet and quick
: Nice carrying handle for transporting/moving around the house
: No jams - I have laminated over 30 sheets in the last two days and have not had any problems with jamming
The machine takes three to five minutes to warm up and about a minute or so to laminate each sheet. You definitely want to center the sheets before you send them through so that the edges don't get crunched (I mistakenly lined up the sheet to the edge of machine thinking it would guide it through better but I think centering is the way to go).
I have used other brands of laminating pouches (cheaper than Fellowes) and have not had any problem so I recommend doing that.
The only reason I did not give this machine 5 stars is because after the laminated sheet passes through the machine, the bottom of the page stays resting on the machine. If you do not remove the paper right away, it sits by the heat and can cause the paper to curl a little. I wish the paper would automatically drop to the table top or move itself away from the heat so that I did not have to think about immediate removal.

It does it's job well, but is not industrial or heavy duty. Make sure you get quality laminating sheets, makes a huge difference.Published 24 months ago by paym

I've been using this laminator for photos and kids artwork. I've only used the 3mm (it has settings for 3mm and 5mm) pouches and my review is based on that experience. Read morePublished on May 15, 2012 by Pablo
The laminator does not work well with 5 mil packets. The final adherence is poor, even after running the carrier through several times. The 3 mil works fine.Published on January 14, 2012 by Ralphie
