My wife is a teacher, so binding machines are something that gets a fair amount of travel in our home. We have a spiral binder which she uses (and reuses) quite often for student workbooks. With that in mind, we were excited to try out the Fellowes Thermal Binding machine.
The Machine has a relatively small footpring; it fit right on our countertop and was easy to set up. The power cord is detachable, which is nice, as it really adds to the storage ability of the machine.
Instructions were really straightforward: you select the appropriate heating mode depending on the thickness of the binding you're working with. We tested it on a 10 sheet binding, a 30 sheet binding, and a 60 sheet binding. The 10 sheet binding was flawless. The heat cycle was approximately 2 minutes, and upon completion, the binding looked clean and professional. The sheets are able to be removed, but it takes some force; the pages aren't going to come out from cursory use. The 30 sheet binding was similarly effective; I think the binder we used for it wasn't intended for that many sheets (it was hard to tell based on the binding folder packaging) so the aligntment was a bit off. Despite that, the binding was as firm as the 10 page binding. The 60 page binding sort of worked: some pages stayed, while others did not; however, I think this is due to the size of the binding folder, and not fault of the machine itself.
The Fellows Thermal Binding machine looks great, is easy to store, and creates really clean, professional looking copies. This would be a great tool to have for a home office, both for professional use and for use at school with children. The faults, if any, are in the very basic instruction manual. It's not that the manual is incomplete, it simply could have better Overall, this is a really nice product that has multiple applicabilites, and comes recommended.
